Jack had turned his head when he heard the nurse enter and he stared at her with a surprised expression but… he hadn’t been embarrassed. Or nervous. He’d actually smiled at her faintly as she left, before giving out a small laugh that mixed and bubbled against Katelynn’s own, before pressing his forehead to hers and shut his eyes.
“Well that was interesting.” he whispered.
Confidence in his voice.
Katelynn looked up at him with a slightly surprised look in her eyes, watching him for a moment before a huge smile broke out on her face. Oh how she hoped this new confidence wouldn’t slip away.
“And funny too,” she commented, giggling. “I’m surprised no one walked in sooner.”
“…to be honest so am I.” he admitted on a chuckle, opening his eyes so he could look into her own for a moment. “I half expected a doctor to walk in or the old man in the other room to wake up or something but it didn’t, did it?” Jack smiled wider before giving her a quick peck on the lips. “Good luck. I think we need it, at least for a while… huh?”
