“I’m not a doctor and I’m only saying all this from my assumptions. So… f-forgive me if I speak out of turn,” Jack said as he stroked Roxy’s head as he spoke. “But she told me her parents… pretty much bullied her. I don’t know how far or the extent of their verbal treatment of her but I could tell it was bad enough to upset her just talking about them with her. It might… might be linked to her eating problems. Like I said I’m only guessing. Getting her in touch with her immediate family might… might not help her. At all. Not right now, at least.”
Doctor Brinks stroked his mustache, humming a bit before pulling the file back out to read. “Ah yes, in her report from the counselor it does state bullying from her mother. But she was not pressed for their contact details of the location of her parent’s for the same reason you stated. No, young man, you are correct. The diagnosis is that traumatic experience and bullying from her peers and parent’s have contributed to low self esteem issues and thus her eating problems give her reason to punish herself. That is why she is mal-nourished.”
“I thought so…” Jack said quietly. “I’m doing my best, trying to help her think better of herself. She’s so wonderful and I just wish she could see herself like I do but.. hah… really it’s the same from her to me. Without her I’m really kind of… not the most confident man. But when she’s around I feel like I am. For her sake. But thank you again for calling me, Doctor Brink. I’m going to do my best to look out for her, to help her in her recovery.”
