Healed

He was quiet as he worked at her casts, concentrating on them with all of his might. But what he said, what she said, got to him. Jack slowly licked his bottom lip.

“…I was bullied really badly. As a child, you know… know this.” he whispers. “A few times, the boy who bullied me worse than the rest… he would break a bone. It-it was an accident, he said at the time. Stronger than he looked. B, but I still suffered from my broken bones.” Jack works further up her leg, nearing her knee. “When I was eight, just… just a few months before my parents adopted me the worst of it happened when some boys pushed me off an embankment during a school guided tour of the woods near Metro City. I fell down and broke my leg, and one of my arms. I had just gotten out of my casts when my parents adopted me. It was… was why I was so quiet. I’d just gotten so scared of people.”

She pictured it all in her head, seeing it play out like some sort of horror movie. Her abuse had been mental, his probably both. He had received worse than she had and still come out more wonderful than she could ever hope to be.

She made an angry noise, her throat tightening in pain for him. “That’s awful! Rotten brats! Oooh if I could just meet those kids…I..I’d kick them in their pants a-and probably slap them a few times! Yeah.”

She bit her bottom lip, knawing on it a while, her brows knitted together in frustration at not being able to do anything to take the memories away from him.

Perhaps making him smile would have been better but she was just so frustrated! “No one deserves that sort of treatment! No one!” She huffed.

“No, nobody does but it happens.” Jack admits as he finally reaches the end of the cast. “Ah, here we go… l-let’s focus on better things. Let me see…”

He tugs at it, and it begins to crack under his pressure, and the cast splits open in half revealing her leg. It’s a little wrinkly, and maybe a bit hairy but it’s healed. Jack smiles at it, before working the cast away entirely.
