Night Over

wrapped-in-shadows:

“Oh! T-thank you! Thank you so much…” Jack smiled as he looked at the bed again, as if the idea of laying there was suddenly something to be gawked at for a moment. He pauses, before slipping his slippers off and sets them down by the bed. He sits down, carefully, before standing up again. He then pulled the blanket down, sat again, and climbed into the bed.

He’d never slept besides someone besides his parents. When he was little, growing up, he would crawl into their bed and sleep between them when his nightmares would be the worst. They never pushed him away. But this wasn’t his parents. This was Katelynn, his girlfriend.

“It’s very comfy.” he compliments as he settles down in it, looking up at her since she was still sitting up.

She smiled shyly at him, adjusting herself down so she was lying right next to him, her head on her on pillow. Only a bit of blanket separated them and she blushed deeper, wishing to cuddle closer to him. “You don’t have to be so polite with me all the time, l-love…”

Her hand hesitantly reached under the comforter toward him, but didn’t reach, too shy to close the space between them.

How was it he felt suddenly shy besides her? Laying here in her bed, there she was, less than a few inches away from him yet he felt that if he touched her it would be bad. Beds were for sleeping and… and other. Things. Their first moment had been on a table, of all things, hardly comfortable for her but it had still been a beautiful moment for the two of them.

When they were older no doubt that first time would be looked back with both fondness, and some laughter.

But Jack didn’t want to feel like a stranger in her bed. He rolled onto his side, so he was looking at her, and reached for her beneath the blanket. His hand found her side, and he touched her, smiling faintly. “I know, I just… really… I’m thankful. Really…”
