Taking a Trip

will-never-be-a-swan:

wrapped-in-shadows:

“Self-raising flour, pinch of salt, milk, eggs, butter…” Jack listed the ingredients as he touched on them, and they began to mix them together in a bowl. Just how much they’d make is hard to tell, but how many would end up burned, or on the floor, it’s probably a good idea to make a big batch. “A-and now we mix…”

He holds the bowl for her as Katelynn mixes the thickening mixture.

Some flour was on her face from the way she had poured it, but a look of deep concentration appears as she mixes, trying her best to mix everything and take out the lumps. “All right, pancake mix, you shall listen to me now and not be lumpy.”

It was so thick and she grunted at times but was otherwise briskly mixing, tongue sticking out a little.

“Are you more into maple syrup or strawberry jam?” she wondered, looking up at him, though wondering if they had jam. It was her favorite way to eat pancakes.

Jack frowned at the thickness and added a bit more milk, since pancake mix wasn’t meant to be THIS thick… least he didn’t think it did. He laughed slightly, reaching out and touched her cheek where the flour had made itself comfortable. “I think we have some strawberries in the fridge from yesterday, we can put them on them? I don’t think we have maple syrup, sorry…”

He sees she’s fine, so he goes over to where the frying pans are, gets one out and sprays it with a non-sticking spray from the cupboard before going to the stove and turning it on.
