Technically it wasn’t a proposal, they both knew that; they were far too new to this but the fact it was a promise for a proposal made all the difference. He had gone silent when she thought; a part of him regretting saying it at all. What was he thinking, did he think this would really help? She was going to say no to him. He knew it.
…yet she doesn’t.
His green eyes stare back at her in equal shock, before a smile crosses over his face.
“Y-you… really? I-I mean when. When I can afford it and… and we’re… we’re not so wrapped up in… in all this… stuff… I will, I will…!”
She giggled lightly, happy to see him smiling again, her heart soaring into the heavens. “Ok..okay..I can’t wait for that day,” she replies, not really meaning it in the way that wishes he would ask her already. “I mean I will wait but when it happens I know we’ll both be so happy and ready.”
He just nods, before he wraps his arms around her tightly, pressing his lips against her forehead. She wanted to. She would say yes. He was so afraid she wouldn’t, that she had seen that it was pointless being with a man like him. That all he had wasn’t enough, that she deserved better than an introvert who painted his life away. But she wanted to stay… she wanted to be with him, when the time came, and… oh gosh. He wishes they were safe now. That there was no danger, no threat, that he could whisk her away from the villains and the bad guys and just be with her, loving her with every part of him.
“It will happen.” he thinks to himself. “It will.”
