“Just save the crusts.” Jack said simply, looking down at her, before he smiled and slowly eased her down onto her back on the bed, resting gently against her. “S’all I ask.”
He settled his head on the pillow besides her head, and sighed heavily as he looked at her. She’d sustained injuries he’d done his best to tend to, he had to trim her hair, and now they were once again resting in their bed together. Funny, how it was no longer his bed. Their bed. And when they move out, to find themselves a new place to live, combining their salaries they should be able to manage something wonderful.
Then it really would be theirs.
“Rest a bit.” he whispered. “Shut your eyes. I’m still here.”
She had been feeling sleepy ever since she stumbled into his apartment. She yawned a bit, showing him she was indeed tired. Jack’s presence was soothing, lulling her into a comfortable state of mind as her mind calmed. She was warm and..
”..Safe..” she whispered as her eyes began to slide shut. “Jack keeps me safe…”
She mumbled a soft “…love you..” before finally allowing her body to rest, falling completely asleep.
He smiled faintly as he held her there in his arms a moment longer. Jack wanted to sleep too, but he had work. Important work, and he only had a few days to do it. Gently he eased his arms away from her and tucked her into the bed. “I love you.” he whispered, kissing her forehead, before moving from the bedroom.
Jack had a weapon to manufacture, and he wasn’t going to do that in the bedroom. Not at all.
