“Hey.. shh, Six… Six is a tough guy isn’t he? I mean. Look at him, he’s. He’s obviously strong. And he’s smart, too. I don’t think he’d go after a woman he knows he can’t beat…” he tried to calm her, but he couldn’t help but worry too. The things Hot Flash had done the day before… the hospital ward, the children and the teacher… could Six really stand up to her? He wrapped his arms around her gently, holding her against him. “I’m… I’m sure he’ll be fine. He will be.”
She gave another shuddering breath, feeling Jack’s warmth and love around her wrap around her like a security blanket. It was like he was standing in front of her like a blue knight, protecting her from her insecurities and pain. How easy it was that he could manage to calm her down when she was at her worst and protect her. He always considered himself so weak but he was actually so strong for putting up with her like this, for comforting her when she needed it and still wishing to be with her.
He was nothing short of amazing.
She gripped his shirt in her hand, snuggling him closer and closing her eyes, giving a few sniffles and trying not to think of Six hurt. Jack was right, of course he was. Six was strong. He had a different kind of strength from Jack and he would return. She just had to believe. She had just been so scared and guilty.
“O-Okay..” she whispered at all. “I-I’ll believe in him…He’ll come back…he will..he has people waiting for him after all..”
Jack rubbed her back gently, his eye shut, and was glad to see she was calming down. She wasn’t crying anymore, her eyes were clearing, and her breathing was returning to normal. “Yeah. He does… what, do you think he could easily leave you behind?” he asked on a faint smile.
