[Return message]

Yeah, really. [That hesitance wasn’t really a good sign, one that makes him hold onto his computer mouse a little tighter, but he continues on.] I’m actually getting paid to play! And it’s not just going down to the park and having people drop bills in my case, it’s actual work.

[Despite his worries, he is proud when he hears that. Jack knows all too well how hard it is to make a living through art, and the news that his son is succeeding in doing so is wonderful, even if it’s happening in another time and place.] Oh. Oh, that’s great! [From his tone, he means it this time] So where are you going to be working? At a club, or with a group, or what?

[Hearing the sincerity in his dad’s voice just makes the decision to accept the job even better, and Ulric grins, crossing his legs beneath his laptop.] At a club, one of the fancier places, accompanying the main singer. It’s kinda fun, actually, even if playing with more than one other person is still weird.

[Smiles as he listens] I know what you mean. It can be hard to figure out how to make your style work with someone else’s. [He thinks of the few times he’s collaborated with other painters, and some of the drama that ensued (on the other person’s part, of course!) when visions clashed.] Mind if I ask who the singer is? [He doubts he’ll recognize the name, since he wasn’t exactly into the music and clubbing scene back then, but he’s curious]
