Nothing is going on. [Reassures quickly. Nothing she could change, that was. Nothing she would change.] I have seen enough to realize the way that sounds, but it is true.

[He’s not quite convinced. The way she changed attitude so quickly is making him suspicious. But then again, she could be telling the truth – really, he has no idea what to think.] Veda … something is going on, i-isn’t it? Something w-weird. [Mostly it’s the way she talks. What does she mean by “I have seen enough”? He might expect a sheltered kid to sound like that (and he would know), but not a grown woman.]

[Sighs, obviously nervous as she fusses with the hem of her shirt.] I… I have been asked to keep quiet on that matter. [Mutters, looking down at her feet.]

[Oh, he wishes he could find out more, maybe offer her help somehow. But Jack is still very shy, and not good at confrontation, so he lets it drop for now. At least she knows how to contact him if she wants.] … All r-right. B-but remember you can t-talk to me if you want. I w-won’t spread secrets.
