Jack had been sitting in the living room with a sketchpad on his knee, trying to come up with ideas. Nothing had come, though. Every time he tried to doodle something, it seemed to come out with very similar images. A bust of Katelynn. Katelynn and her camera. Katelynn and him dancing together.
Katelynn in a wedding gown.
The ring she had thrown away the day she left was still in Jack’s pocket. He’d taken to keeping it always close, as a kind of talisman. On some level, it gave him hope that he would find away to bring her back to her old self, and they would still have a future together.
The beeping of the text made him look up. He checked his phone, and a wave of mingled hope and pain washed through him when he saw who it was from.
[Text] Thank you, Gail. I’d say you don’t know how much this means to me, but I think you of all people DO know. I haven’t given up on Katelynn, and I don’t intend to, but I need all the hope I can get right now. [Sends]
