Jack’s eyes widened. He’d noticed how active the baby was (and secretly hoped it meant she’d be stronger and braver than her father), but he’d never noticed that it was because of him. “Really?” He pressed a hand over Katelynn’s belly now, pushing her shirt up a little, feeling the taut curve and the smoothness of her skin. 

“Yes,” she giggled softly. She helped him by holding the material up so her entire belly was accessible, looking down at his reaction. “She was napping earlier but as soon as she heard you she’s been an active little thing and hasn’t calmed down. Talk to her, love. Press your ear right here and you can hear her…”

She pointed to the lower left of her belly where the little one was currently settled.

Curious, Jack did as he was told. He knelt down in front of Katelynn, and pressed his ear to her belly, his hand beside it. “Er … hello, little one. How are you doing in there?"
