Trapped

“Was it giving your fiance a heart attack because if that was your plan then you succeeded!” Jack said, pulling back, frowning at her. “A private place? Will you even t-tell me where? And why?”

“It’s Six’s business to know that..I can’t share his private information..” she whispered, frowning in irritation at the memory of him. “But he didn’t listen to me. I tried helping him and he didn’t listen.”

She put both of her palms in her hair, pressing them against her forehead and feeling so lost. She had to convince him somehow, to talk to him about it. Minion’s spirit was trapped and only he might know how to free him.

“He looked mad.” Jack said quietly, watching her, refusing to answer his question and that hurt a lot. More than he would care to admit. “When he brought you here, h-he looked really mad.”

“Katelynn!!”

Seconds later blue arms were around her, and Jack was holding onto her, eyes wide with worry. “Oh my God Katelynn…!! I was so scared!” he says, shakily. “Six brought you here a-and you were unconscious but he said you were sleeping and I was so afraid where were you last night??”

“I went back to a place Six took me,” she whispered, his arms wrapped tight as her face was snug against his shoulder. “A private place for him…I wanted to help him bring a little more closure..”

Six’s words from last night were hardly registering into her mind, only thinking about how he hadn’t listening to a word she said. He had even forced her to go unconscious. She frowned against Jack.

“But I managed to do what I set out so that’s good at least.”

She was probably delirious. A night in here, with whatever horrors were lurking around she probably made this up. Made herself believe this. “Katelynn.” he growled, exhaustion and nerves on end he turns around and presses his hand to her forehead.

Instantly, Katelynn blacks out.

He carries her sleeping body up through the Facility, and brings her home to Jack.

In her dreams she could see him, a floating cute little fish, that smiled at her, nudging her happily. His presence was just so warm that it made her cry, the tears appearing in the real word on her face.

Blinking a bit, she groaned and sat up in the bed, body curling together as she ran a hand over her forehead. Had it all been a dream?

“Katelynn!!”

[He grins.] My mom is a-awesome. She’s never been the t-type of woman to keep her opinion t-to herself. But sh-she’s still mindful of people’s feelings. A g-good thing. [And then she mentions Katelynn’s mother, and Jack frowns slightly as he washes his brush.] Hnn. Y-yeah… she told me ab-about that. I only met her mo-mother once and it wasn’t a p-p-pleasant experience at all. [Now some reds, and blacks…] Very n-negative woman. K-Katelynn told me I should g-get a restraining order on her too…

“Negative”, heh, that’s a nice way of putting it. I was there when Katelynn met with her at the station. [Listens to the last part] Yeah, that was my suggestion. It’s up to you, of course, but it might be wise. I seriously think she’s unstable on some level. If she can’t go after Katelynn directly, she might try to get at her through the people she loves. I’ve seen it happen before.

Would I h-have to appear before a court to do it? [He’s sounds fairly nervous when he asks that; since he has no idea how this sort of thing is meant to go. Jack continues with the reds and blacks, the swirling mess looking very interesting now.]

[Jack laughs slightly, adding some blue and yellow to the painting.] Y-yeah? Mine did too… in fact w-when my mother first met my fa-father she slapped him right in the face. S-Six months later they were married.

[She laughs again. The talk of parents on his part gives her a little pause – she doesn’t know if he’s talking about human caregivers or memories of the world he came from. Again, she knows very little about the personal histories of most Megaminds] Your mom sounds awesome. And my mom ended up moving halfway around the world to be with my dad. But hey, it’s not a contest. I’m just glad you and Katelynn are happy. [Her tone becomes more serious] … Although, speaking of parents, did Katelynn tell you about the restraining order she took out on her mom?

She hadn’t slept, had barely eaten, having walked around for hours trying to find an exit. She wasn’t sure how much time had passed or even what part of the facility she was in. Luckily her flashlight wasn’t dying but she supposed the batteries weren’t going to give out so soon.

But she felt like she was. The noises, the touches, seeing things out of the corner of her eyes; she was constantly shivering by now, arms around herself. She had tried to find the rope she had used or any lying around but the only thing on the floor was dust and crumbs…and the blood.

Wondering briefly if this desperation was sort of how Six felt while down here, she reached up to tangle her fingers in her hair, pulling on it slightly, worried she’d never find the exit and Jack would worry himself sick.

Leaning against a wall, Katelynn sank down to her bottom, legs tucked into herself, closing her eyes and just trying to ignore everything around her.

Yet it felt like it was all closing in on her. A feeling of suffocation. It was getting closer, the feeling of suffocation. She wasn’t alone, she had known this from the start of this. Nobody real, nobody living, but echoes of the past and whispers. Plus a little fish, his soul lost, trapped and not knowing how to get out.

They were all trapped. Now she was trapped with them…

Morning came and she still wasn’t home. Jack tried calling her multiple times but still no answer. He walked back and forth through the apartment, worry on his face, and chewing at his nails. What if something had happened? Something horrible? He didn’t know. Yet his mind was going a mile a minute.

He couldn’t just stand here.

Looking over her note again he frowned, picked up his phone and called Six.

What followed was a confusing phone call. Jack, all but crying, about Katelynn being missing. That she was somewhere that Six knew about. Six, tired after a night out fighting people and robots, had just settled down to sleep after working through the night on something else and now sighed heavily to himself.

There was a promise that he would get Katelynn, and bring her back, to wait there. He made Six super promise, and only then did he hang up and went back to waiting.

[Picking up a paint brush he begins dabbling against a blank canvas; something he does, now and then, when on the phone to somebody.] Y-yeah not too long… but, you know. I r-really just feel she’s the one for me.

[Hesitates before answering] … Well, if you’re really sure. [Soft chuckle] I guess I really shouldn’t talk. My own parents did the whirlwind romance thing, so I know it can work.

[Jack laughs slightly, adding some blue and yellow to the painting.] Y-yeah? Mine did too… in fact w-when my mother first met my fa-father she slapped him right in the face. S-Six months later they were married.

[He laughs, digging against his jeans with his free hand.] Oh! Y-yeah…! You heard…! D-did Katelynn tell you?

Mm-hm. She made the announcement over lunch with some friends the other day. I gotta admit, I was kind of surprised – I didn’t think you guys had been together that long. [Trying to sound casual as she says it]
