“You  can surprise me, or…” Ezayne grinned to dissimulate his lack of knowledge about the subject. Given how he never had finished his studies, all he knew about meassures what using the length of his hooks as reference (10 meters each one). Still, Jack’s face was telling him sure it would be better just to pick a size.

“…You could draw the scene inside a square, 1 meter each side.”

A square didn’t really suit the images Jack had in mind, but he gave a small nod. After looking the wallspace over carefully once more, he said, “I’ll tell you what. Why don’t I get s-some preliminary sketches done, in different shapes, and you can pick which one looks best?” He smiled. “I could scan them and email them to you?” Graphic art was still a new and distant field for him, but he’d talked to some other artists while he was in New York, and gotten the idea to start using a scanner.

“Sounds like an excellent plan to me! I really like than plan!” Ezayne couldn’t help but smile back. “If you tell me your email account, I’ll send you an email back, so you can add me to your contacts list. Can’t wait to see your sketches. Sure they will be amazing.”

More sketches meant more drawings. More things he could watch before going to sleep. It would be a way to keep her close to his heart.

“Here you go.” From his pocket, Jack produced one of the updated business cards he’d had ordered while he was still in New York. It carried his phone number, email, and several other contact details. “And I s-should have the sketches ready very soon.” He meant that – he was excited to get started on this project.

Tgat sounded actually quite good. Maybe not all the wall, but he could commission a large painting. “A painting about of the encounter over a magpie bridge. That’s something I’d love to see…” he said dreamily, his cheeks blushing faintly.

“It would be even more beautiful if you could draw us wearing yukatas, the kind of kimonmos Japanese people wears in these festivals. I also would like to see certain important details…” he showed him the key hanging from his neck.

“See this key? It was a gift from Helena, one of Sinner’s personalities. She surely still has the padlock which could be opoçened only with this key. Both the key and the padlock have these gree and orange gems, pointing one of the connections we share. I wish I could see her wearing it, but until them… Could you add her padlock to her neck, please?

Jack nodded, listening and taking notes on what Ezayne wanted in the painting (and deciding not to comment on anything). He asked Ezayne to let him get a closer look at the key, and began quickly sketching both it and a description of the padlock.

“And, how big would you like the picture to be? So I know what canvas measurements to use?” Now that they were talking business, it was easier.

“I don’t think I’m going to move, but… A regular painting would be nice.” Ezayne smiled, feeling really sad inside. It seemed he wouldn’t get the mural he wanted, but at least he’d get a nice painting. The assassin could paint the mural into his room anyway, it wasn’t like he couldn’t. He just felt sorry that such a great artist like Jack didn’t want to do what could have been an absolute wonder. But it was fine. Sure D and him could do a great job by themselves.

It wouldn’t be perfect but it would be exactly what he wanted.

“I guess a simple portrait of her wouldn’t be too expensive for me. Might I request something for that portrait?

“Of course,” Jack replied. “Anything you like. I-I could even still do the scene from the legend, if you want. It just won’t be as e-expansive.”

“Anything would work, really.” he gave him a little sad smile, realizing Jack wasn’t feel too comfortable with all of this. Ezayne bit his bottom lip.

Maybe it hadn’t been a good idea to ask him to do this, after all. BUt he couldn’t kick him out without nothing. It would bee too cruel. And surely disappointing for the man. He looked down, sighing.

“I know what you’re thinking. Sure you’re thinking I’m a stalker or something similar. I wouldn’t blame you if you do.” he looked back to the white wall, upset. It seemed his little dream would have to be something he had to work in by himself, as  he had done before in the years of his training.

He looked back at Jack, and rubbed his arm. “It… It will be enough if you draw to me a simple sketch, really. I just wanted something… Something I could see every morning and think ‘maybe today, she’ll finally give me her hand’. Maybe I’m just dreaming… but I’ve never loved anyone else as much I love her, Jack. I’ll pay you for the time you wasted here, though. It will be enough with a sketch, if you don’t want to do this.”

Jack relaxed a little as he heard Ezayne’s words. The fact that the man was well aware of how strange the situation was made him feel much better. His heart went out to Ezayne – his and Sinner’s story sounded very painful, and tragic.

“N-no, it’s all right. I do want to do this. She’s v-very beautiful,” he gestured at the pictures of Sinner, “and I w-would like to paint her.” He considered it for a moment. “M-maybe you’d like a regular painting, instead of a mural? That way, y-you could take it with you if you moved,” he added.

“Sure.” Resting his laptop on his lap, Ezayne rushed to open it. “Here’s her blog. ANd she has some lovely pictures… These are from the time when she had long hair. And these are more recent, she got a haircut…”

He showed him all the photos, all them showing the same girl with mismatched eyes. “Sinner is my Orihime. Unfortunately… she doesn’t see me as her Hikoboshi. Not yet. All because of many mistakes I did in the past…”

Jack studied the pictures closely: the beautiful young woman with the mismatched eyes and dramatic black-and-white-and-red-all-over hair. She would definitely make a good subject for a painting, but something about the situation was making Jack uneasy. This woman, Sinner, didn’t return Ezayne’s feelings? And yet he wanted her in a huge, romantically themed painting on his bedroom wall? That was … sort of sweet, yes, and Jack could sympathize. He’d felt the same way when he’d first met Katelynn, and been so sure that she’d never be interested in him. But also more than a little creepy.

Was it right for him to be a part of this? For that matter, was it safe? He’d scolded Katelynn enough times for getting mixed up with dangerous people – he couldn’t very well do it himself.

But he said he’d pay well, Jack thought, guiltily. We do need the money. And it could be a beautiful painting, even if no one else ever sees it.

“… D-do you want her with long hair or short?”

Ezayne bit his bottom lip. He sure did have a photo in his cellphone, but he couldn’t share it. But… as creepy that could be, he had taken a few photos of her from the moments where he was following her over the rooftops. Maybe those could work… Or just giving names.

“Yes. I’d be Hikoboshi, the character who represents the star Altair. And the woman who would be my Orihime is….” he bit his bottom lip, taking a deep breath. “Sinner. Though some people knows her as Isabelle Meric.” God, how he hated that surname. “Do you know who is she? If you don’t… I can show you her blog. Sure we can find some photos of her there.”

Jack shook his head. “I’m afraid the names d-don’t ring a bell for me,” he said. He recalled what Ezayne had said – that this woman, Sinner, had multiple personalities as well. And not because of mental illness, it seemed, since that didn’t cause peoples’ eyes to change color (despite what certain fantasy novels would have you believe). He wanted to hear the rest of their story.

“B-but this is a big city, and I’ve been away for a few months. So, sure, could you show me her blog?”

“Sure.” Resting his laptop on his lap, Ezayne rushed to open it. “Here’s her blog. ANd she has some lovely pictures… These are from the time when she had long hair. And these are more recent, she got a haircut…”
