“No dad!” she cried, moving to stop him as she placed her hands over his. “Uh..I mean..she likes it right? Let’s just..leave it on her.” She gave him a rather nervous smile, trying to get the clasp back on.

Jack, a soft touch as fathers went, often turned a blind eye to many of his daughter’s antics, but even he could tell when she was trying to hide something. “… Gail, what’s going on?” Very deliberately, he reached for the clasp again.

She gulped again and tried to get Roxy out of his reach. “Nothing!” she laughed nervously, holding Roxy to her who tried to wiggle out of her grasp. “Just um..you know..Roxy likes it!”

Except that since the costume was too big for her, she wiggled out of her costume and trotted off where you could see the buzzcut.

“Oh shit..” Gail whispered, looking quite guilty as she winced.

Gail was very lucky that Jack hadn’t heard her swear like that. He was already angry enough when he saw what she’d done to Roxy. “Oh my god. Gail, what is this?” He scooped up the wriggly pug, trying to read the words cut in her fur. “ ‘Vlik’? ‘Wik’? Gail, what were you thinking? You’re old enough to know better than to do things like this to the dogs!” He considered. “Or to anyone!

[Sighs, though he’s also trying not to laugh a little bit.] You know, I think she actually does. [Or at least, she doesn’t seem too upset about it.] Okay, she can wear it. One question, though – why a lobster?

-She couldn’t tell him she had actually made Roxy wear it because Gail had tried hiding her attempt at giving Roxy a fancy buzzcut to her skin that would read ‘Ulric sucks’ but had ended up coming out looking like ‘VliK’ instead before she quit. She laughed nervously- “Um…for summer! Take her to the beach..pretends she’s a crab…fits!”

Jack raised an eyebrow at that. “Hey now, that’s not very nice.” He reached down to give Roxy a comforting head-rub. “Tell you what, let’s take the costume off now. Save it for the summer.” He started to reach for the velcro clasp.

[In the future]

… Okay, who picked out Roxy’s costume?

“Gail did it!”

-mumbling- “Dang Squealer…” -louder- “It looks good on her and it’ll keep her warm, right? Plus Roxy likes it!”

“Awww love it’s barely summmer! Don’t go that far into the future.” She giggled. “I still need to g-go bikini shopping and I wanted you to go with me~”

[He’s about to say that he just likes the picture, when he hears that last part. Bikini shopping. Katelynn. Katelynn trying on bikinis. Watching Katelynn try on bikinis. Oh, Jack likes this idea.] Um, yes. Yes. I-I’d like that.

“All right then! It’s settled. We can even get something for you too. It’ll be so much fun going to beach together and swimming. I can’t wait.”

[He can’t keep a silly grin off his face. Normally he’d be a bit shy about shopping for such things, but the thought of doing so with Katelynn sounds fun.] Neither can I.

“No seriously I mean sorry still don’t understand what you see in a villain magnet. I probably never will either and sort of wish you’d find someone better. -shakes his head- “Ah well maybe someday you’ll see the light.” -Salutes as he walks away-

[Grits his teeth, not even remotely amused now] Y-you know, you’re not exactly the b-best guy to give me advice about women or villains. [Watches him go, then leaves as well]
