A purple blush of embarrassment creeps across his face. He’s not used to being hit on, especially in such a teasing way, and it’s making him uncomfortable. “Th-that’s very flattering, ma’am, but I don’t think my fiancee would like it.”

” Typical.” She pouts with a sigh, coming up with the weirdest analogy she made up by far, ” The cute ones are always taken. Either that, or they are as gay as a sparkly unicorn running on a rainbow.” Enigma gave him a light punch to the shoulder, still in her random giggle fit, ” Well anyways, congrats. May you make tons of adorable blue puppy babies.”

Jack barely kept himself from flinching as Enigma socked his shoulder. Even if it was a light, playful punch, it brought up bad, bad memories. “… Erm, thank you. We intend to.”

He didn’t like this person much so far, but thanks to a recent encounter, he knew that “blue puppy babies” were a very real possibility in his future – it didn’t bother him as much as it would have. “I don’t believe I caught your n-name?”

Jack frowned at the comment. He was very sensitive about his looks, after a lifetime of having been teased and bullied, and comparing him to Clark Gable didn’t make up for it. Still, he tried to be polite. “Um, th-thank you, ma’am. My name is Jack Maple.”

” You even have an adorable name. Double whammy right here.” She had no idea, how much her words effected him and continued her playful teasing as the chuckling didn’t cease, ” Your like the blue puppy I’ve always wanted. Can I take you home with me please?”

” Well hello peach fuzz, where did you get that mustache; at the 99 cent store?” With a little wave she begins to chuckle at her own joke before giving him a light pat on the shoulder. ” Kidding, you look just great. Reminds me of the character from Gone with the Wind. Very smashing.”

Obey: Do a hand-stand

[Breathes a sigh of relief – that’s a fairly safe command.] All right. Let me see … [He bends down, very carefully resting his head on the carpet, then quickly pushes his legs up. With his slender, top-heavy frame, it’s easier for him than it would be for many people, and he manages to hold it for a few moments before he drops.]

Smiling with the warmth of the hug and trying to soak it up as much as possible, Gail closed her eyes as she allowed herself to enjoy it. To think she had a chance to meet him young like this; she just couldn’t stop being happy about it.

“I’ll let him know about you first. I know he’s going to tease me about breaking my own rule but…sure dad. I’ll give you his address and phone number and mine too and we can arrange something.”

It actually excited her because it almost felt like a reunion and it almost made her feel sheepish for the way she had treated the past version of her mother. She was going to have to apologize for that.

Jack nodded. “That sounds like a good idea. I-I can imagine this must be pretty weird for you two as well,” he said, with a weak chuckle.

He gave Gail one of his business cards (a very old-fashioned version compared to the ones he used in the future), and had her write hers and Ulric’s contact information on another. “I hope I’ll hear from you two soon?”

Taking the card between her two fingers like a ninja holding a shuriken, Gail smiled at him tenderly. “For sure! We’re not too far from here actually by where Uncle Six lives.” She was definitely staying away from him though. It was enough to freak out her parent’s but her uncle’s? She hadn’t even bothered looking for her Uncle Mets yet.

Jogging over to the door, she winked at him. “You and mom take care of yourself too. Don’t make me have to come save you since my existence hangs in the balance.” She chuckled, knowing her father was definitely less thank likely to get in trouble with a villain. “Say hi to her for me too.”

And with a salute she was out the door and running back to tell Ulric the good news, feeling lighter than she had in the past few months.

Jack chuckled at the comment, but it was still worrying to realize that a wrong move could change Gail’s existence. “I’ll do my best. And yes, I’ll tell her about you.”

And, wondering how exactly he was supposed to explain all of this, he headed off to find Katelynn.
