“So do I.” Jack said with a smile as he watched her tickle her puppy. He suddenly missed Roxy. “Right. Now, I have some work to do, but first I might go and spoil Roxy with my presence for a while.” he walked over to her, and kissed her cheek. “Take care, and you know my number yeah?” he asked, pausing to touch the puppy again. “Precious little thing.”

“Your number?” she replied, tilting her head. “Seems kind of silly when you live so close by and I have a key. But okay..I better go buy her some food and toys anyway and try to think of a name.”

She cuddled the puppy close, glad for her presence before looking back at Jack. “Don’t overwork yourself okay..?”

She tried to ignore the pang in her chest at his leaving, squashing it down. He needed to work. She had her own things to do.

Still, she felt like she was going to miss him.

“Well you know all ways to contact me, silly.” Jack said with a smile as he traced his finger along her face gently, before he leaned in and pressed his lips to her softly, gently, lovingly. “I love you.” he whispered. “Remember, anything you need, you know where to get me.” he said.

He too felt a little sad leaving but he DID have work. And Katelynn had to bond with her puppy. It was important.

Jack kissed her again because he could, before moving from the room.

He smiled at her as he reached out, and gently pet the puppy’s head. “I guess so. Still, with this little girl in your life it’s like having a baby any way.” Jack pointed out. “And I’m still a call away if you need help with anything, you know? Be it puppy training or a cuddle in the middle of the night. All right?” he asked with a smile.

She nodded, walking over to him to place a gentle kiss on his lips, lingering there for a moment before pulling back a breath away. Her cheeks flushed as her eyes opened slightly to look at him. “I like the idea of cuddling together,” she said softly, before pulling away completely to tickle her new puppy, smiling down at her.

“So do I.” Jack said with a smile as he watched her tickle her puppy. He suddenly missed Roxy. “Right. “You give me your love, Katelynn. You give me your time. Your smiles. Your kisses. Your tender touches.” Jack whispered to her. “That is more than I could ever ask for.”

The little puppy suddenly began to bark, bouncing around their feet; seemed she was envious and wanted attention.

“Aww sweetie, come here,” she cooed, bending down to pick her up and nuzzle noses with her. “You’re going to get all of my love too. I’ll try to be the best owner for you.” She rested the puppy in her arms, petting her gently as she looked up at Jack. “Thank you, Jack. For today..really..I guess now..you don’t have to worry anymore and we can continue like always..”

He smiled at her as he reached out, and gently pet the puppy’s head. “I guess so. Still, with this little girl in your life it’s like having a baby any way.” Jack pointed out. “And I’m still a call away if you need help with anything, you know? “Aw, Katelynn…”

Jack easily looped his arms around her, pulling her into him, and kissed the top of her head gently, and even gently rocked her in his arms. He knew she hurt from the fact there was no baby in her body growing; he could see it. But he also saw the relief. Such a weight was not theirs to bear yet… maybe one day, if they really are meant to be with one another for the rest of their lives.

“You do spoil me. You spoil me every time you take time to spend with me. I consider myself so lucky…”

She brought her arms up to hug him back, pressing herself closer to his chest. “It isn’t enough though. It doesn’t feel like enough. Jack..you give me so much love and support..I haven’t given you much back it seems.”

“You give me your love, Katelynn. You give me your time. Your smiles. Your kisses. Your tender touches.” Jack whispered to her. “That is more than I could ever ask for.”

Jack stood back as the puppy explored, sniffing and snuffling, her small tail wagging madly. He had to smile. “Roxy was like that when I first got her. Sniffing absolutely everywhere, finding all the good places to settle…” Roxy hadn’t been a puppy, though. She was a ‘teenager’. Not nearly a puppy but not an adult either. “You’re going to spoil her rotten aren’t you?” he asked with a smile as he saw the look in Katelynn’s eyes as she watched the puppy bound around.

Katelynn stayed quiet a moment, thinking back to the day’s events a semi-serious expression on her face. She did want to spoil her new puppy, considering she wouldn’t have a baby to spoil. A pang hit her heart at the thought. Now she had a new baby to take care of in the form of a puppy.

But still…

“I-I am..something I really should to you, for being so wonderful to me,” she said softly, turning around until she was standing in front of him, a blush on her face as she stared at his chest because she couldn’t quite meet his eyes.

“Aw, Katelynn…”

Speaking of, his hand found her free one, the one not holding the puppy’s leash, and the two returned back to their apartment building to introduce the little girl to her new home. Naturally the puppy was excited as anything, sniffing around at any, and everything in sight.

“Do you like it, little one?” she asked, bending down to unhook her leash and let her roam and explore. She was really going to have to start picking up the photo’s off the floor in case the puppy peed on them. That wouldn’t be a very happy thing for Katelynn.

She watched with a smile while sitting on her hunches as she explored all around, sniffing at everything. Katelynn had a while lot to learn about having a pet; where she would sleep (“In my bed.”) or what food to get (“Will definitely need to go shopping for her soon.”) and how to potty train her. (“Oh man I know she’s going to have a lot of accidents.”)

“If I did I’d hug you all the time.” Jack smiled softly.

She blushed deeply at that, continuing her trek back to her apartment and tugging the puppy along gently. In his arms, always in his arms, safe and warm. She liked that idea and it caused her blush to deepen. She wondered why she was still so shy, considering they had showered together and made love. But he had a way of affecting her all the time whether it be with his eyes, touch, or words.

Speaking of, his hand found her free one, the one not holding the puppy’s leash, and the two returned back to their apartment building to introduce the little girl to her new home. Naturally the puppy was excited as anything, sniffing around at any, and everything in sight.

“Well when you think it’s ready for her to meet Roxy, you let me know.” Jack said with a smile. “Roxy’s super friendly with dogs she’s familiar with. She needs a play mate, really…” he looks down at the tiny puppy who was digging into some snow, since they’d paused to talk on the street. “I give her all my attention when I can but you know. When I’m painting I can’t toss a ball all the time.”

“If only you had four arms…?” she asked, smiling up at him teasingly before looking off at the puppy, making sure she didn’t get into trouble.

“If I did I’d hug you all the time.” Jack smiled softly.

“…well, if you want her to be socially active, and not bark madly at other dogs and people it would be good for her to meet other dogs.” Jack pointed out gently. “I’m sorry, I don’t. I don’t want to be bossy.”

“Ah no, it’s not bossy love,” she tried to amend, looking up at him. “I was just..sorry..caught me a bit off guard. That’s kind of a big step..” Or she supposed it was. They were practically living together as it was since they had exchanged keys and made love. Katelynn was used to his presence in fact and it felt strange when he was away.

Don’t be clingy… she scolded herself.

“Well it’s your choice,” Jack said as he laughed, lifting his leg when the puppy almost got her lead tangled with his leg. “She is precious though. We’ll have to introduce her to Roxy pretty early though, just so they get used to each other.”

“I-Isn’t that..?” She began, then stopped herself, blushing and remembering what Jack had told his uncle. “You told your uncle, the way it sounded, I wonder if he thinks we’re living together. And now with saying that about Roxy.”
