He didn’t know what to say.

He honestly had no idea what to say, or do, to make this better.

It felt like a knife had suddenly been slammed into his stomach and twisted violently.

She’d been attacked. Twice on the same day. Kidnapped by Psycho Delic. Cut by him. Threatened by Hot Flash.

And she hadn’t told him a thing.

She had looked him in the eyes and lied.

No sign to say she was.

He took a slow, steadying breath, as his heart continued to shrink in on itself. “She lied to me. She lied to me. She said she’d never lie to me about anything. We’re meant to be honest aren’t we? Isn’t that the idea of a relationship? She didn’t want me worrying? Isn’t not worrying worse than not knowing? What if it had been worse? What if she had died? Then what? Where would he be? Alone all over again and you know you would box yourself up in this apartment and never leave. What do I do. What do I say. She lied to me… she… lied… but with good reason…?

He was quiet for a long moment, unable to say anything, incapable of it. So he held her close.

It was all he could do.

She sobbed against him, worry filling her heart. She felt like scum. She felt worse than scum. She had tried to do the right thing, or what she thought was the right thing and it blew up in her face. She honestly didn’t want him to worry, didn’t want him to get hurt. She had never had anyone worrying over her before that this was new to her.

All she could do was whisper, “I’m sorry,” over and over, hoping he wouldn’t hate her, hoping he wouldn’t leave her. She had no one but him. She had disowned her family and despite all her friends, none of them had been there for her like Jack had.

She was so scared, tears continuously streaming down her face.

It felt like an eternity before he finally said anything.

“We have to move.”

It was the only thing he said.

“Katelynn, Katelynn…” he said shakily, sitting up in his bed quickly, looking down at her, worry clearly plastered on his face. “What is it? What’s wrong? Don’t cry, it, it’s okay please…” Jack reached out to her, wrapping his arms around her, trying to help but not knowing if this could help. “A hypocrite, a-about what?”

She let out a breath to try to calm down, eyes shut and refusing to look him in the eye. She didn’t want to see the anger when she told him or the hurt or the hate. She’d break down if she did.

“I wasn’t..I wasn’t being truthful to you about yesterday..” she started with a scared timbre in her voice. “I wasn’t robbed..yesterday..I lied..”

Tears began to leak out of her eyes, fearful of his reaction. “I just..I didn’t want you to worry is all! I was still so scared, that was true! I didn’t lie about that! I was attacked yes..but it was by two villains…Psycho Delic and Hot Flash..Psycho..he appeared in my apartment with a knife and I ran away. I didn’t want you to get hurt and so I disappeared into the crowd but he still found me. He took me down into the sewers and threatened to kill two civilians if I didn’t make a news report and put it on the air. I was so scared for those people! I couldn’t..I couldn’t say no. But he let me go after he cut my cheek. And I turned in the tape and he let the civilians go!”

She paused in her tirade to breath before continuing. “And not long after that Hot Flash appeared to me. She also threatened me. She..she said she’d hurt my friends if I didn’t tell her who Metro Man’s friends were. But I refused to tell her. I didn’t want her finding them. But either way, they both know where I live and I’m just..I’m so scared! And I didn’t want you to worry and so I lied but god I didn’t want to and the guilt kept eating at me! I couldn’t stand it anymore! I’m sorry! You hate me now!”

She began to sob, putting her hands up to her face, her body shaking.

He didn’t know what to say.

He honestly had no idea what to say, or do, to make this better.

It took him a moment to realize how quiet she was. At first he thought it was because she was awake. He opened his eyes and looked at her, and saw her pointedly looking away from him. His heart turned to ice in seconds. “…Katelynn? W-what… what’s wrong? Did y-didn’t you have a good sleep…?” he asked. “Are you sick..?”

She shut her eyes tightly, her arms resting near her head. She had done it already, worrying him, upsetting him. Her heart beat with her nervousness, her stomach twisting unpleasantly.

“…I can’t..I can’t stand the guilt Jack..” she began, moisture collecting at her eyes. “I’m being such a hypocrite…so stupid of me!”

Jack sighed and slowly rubbed his nose against her shoulder, eyes shut once more. He loved this. This… they had never properly woken in each others arms like this. She was so warm, so close, and it felt so right. He’d never woken like this before but oh, he would do it again in a heart beat. If she was staying here, with him, then he looked forward to every morning.

“You’re warm…” he whispered sleepily.

She snuggled closer to him, yes, but she refused to look at him. She feared if she did she would lose her courage. The loving way in which he spoke broke her heart. She wished she could relish in it, return the affection. Her heart was battling with her, wishing her to accept it and just melt against him.

But she wouldn’t. Oh god she couldn’t.

Jack slept for a moment longer, the darkness keeping him in his dreamless state, before his eyes finally slowly opened. He became aware he had his arm around someone but he didn’t wonder who it was for long. He knew this body well, now. He smiled sleepily, letting his eyes shut again.

“Morning…” he whispered softly.

She had been looking at a spot in the wall, her heart leaping at his voice in both love and fear. Did she dare spill it out so soon after he woke up or was it better to wait? God she was scared.

“G-Good morning..” she whispered, keeping her face away as she tried to gather courage as best she could. This was the first time they had slept together like this, merely cuddling and awakening together in bed, and she was going to ruin it by telling him she had lied?

Wonderful.

She let out a shaky breath, her heart pounding so hard and loud in her chest, the sound echoing in her ears. She decided to wait until she was sure he was awake before she told him. Hopefully she could gather enough courage by then.

Jack sighed and slowly rubbed his nose against her shoulder, eyes shut once more. He loved this. This… they had never properly woken in each others arms like this. And sleep they did. Jack continued to hold her close, though his hand did shift somewhere in the middle of the night and his mouth fell open, drooling slightly, as his hand now covered one of her breasts entirely.

And yet he still slept on, oblivious to it all. All he was aware of, was a loving presence in his bed. One he hadn’t felt before. Jack snuggled closer, sighing in his sleep… content, peaceful, happy. It was a new feeling to be held, and cherished, in his bed to be sure.

He dreamed of her. Of course he did. Her long hair swaying as she moved through a painting he was setting up. She smiled at him, in his dream, before running her hands over her stomach which was bulging with purpose and life. Jack’s eyes widened and he reached out to touch her, but he only touched the canvas. He couldn’t reach her.

“Katelynn?” he asked.

But then thick purple and pink smog began to circle her. Jack grabbed the painting in his hands, shaking it, trying to get into it, to her, since he can hear her screaming she’s screaming for him but he can’t get to her. He’s screaming her name, until it all just falls into blackness and his nightmare ends as abruptly as it begun.

And yet he hadn’t moved at all in the waking world at all. The only sign to show he was upset, was his eyebrows furrowing together.

At some point in the night Katelynn had woken up with her own nightmare. Jack had been upset she had lied. She had been crying, trying to explain to him but he had turned his back to her and walked away, saying he didn’t love her anymore for her lies.

Tears had come out from her eyes in the living world, evidence of the bad dream. It was enough to wake her up slightly, blinking back the tears she hadn’t really known were there. God the guilt was choking her and wouldn’t let her sleep. In fact, she was starting to remember when she had gotten upset for keeping things from her.

She looked over at him, wiping at her eyes, seeing his furrowed eyebrows and kissing them, hoping to sooth his dreams of whatever they were.

“I..I can’t keep this from you..it’s wrong..” she whispered, the rays of day barely peeking out into the room.

Jack slept for a moment longer, the darkness keeping him in his dreamless state, before his eyes finally slowly opened. He became aware he had his arm around someone but he didn’t wonder who it was for long. He knew this body well, now. He smiled sleepily, letting his eyes shut again.

Jack was a heavy sleeper, it seemed. Since even when she climbed into the bed, her legs bumping his, he didn’t move at all. The man lay on his side, breathing softly for a moment, before just as Katelynn was beginning to sleep he rolls over. He throws himself around in the bed, his arm setting down on top of her chest, his face pressing against her shoulder as he sleeps on, oblivious to her being here at all.

No wonder he barely moved after they made love. The man could sleep in any position whatsoever.

She had just begun to sleep when she felt arms around her and a warm body press into her side. She gasped lightly, looking over at the handsome man next to her, a blush peeking up around her neck, even in her slightly groggy state of mind.

His arm..his arm was touching her chest. Oh god.

She lay there, trying to ignore the way her body responded and closed her eyes, shifting a little to snuggle back against him, her forehead touching his.

“G-Good night love,” she whispered, her mind relaxing into sleep finally after a long moment.

And sleep they did. Jack continued to hold her close, though his hand did shift somewhere in the middle of the night and his mouth fell open, drooling slightly, as his hand now covered one of her breasts entirely.

He smiled faintly and nodded, before kissing her forehead. Jack turned and made his way through to the bedroom, Roxy obediently trotting away behind him since she felt it was her job to stand in the door when he did so. In case of intruders. Yes, very much so.

Jack changed into his winter pajamas and climbed into his bed, turning the light off as he did. Roxy, still in the door, made a ‘wuff’ noise at him as if saying goodnight, then trotted past Katelynn. They had a schedule, those too. Soon as daddy was in bed, Roxy could go on the beanbag and sleep. She pauses to sniff at Stella one last time before leaving the kitchen, to curl up on the beanbag.

She stood there awkwardly a bit, by herself, or well with Stella still at her feet and begging for treats. The day’s events had actually made her tired but Katelynn didn’t have time to sleep just yet. She cleaned up their pizza mess, putting the remains in containers and into the fridge to eat later and tossing out the boxes.

Clean up in the kitchen done, she walked over to her bag in Jack’s room, trying hard not to disturb him as she took out what she needed, PJs and toothbrush, proceeding into the bathroom to change and brush her teeth, tying her hair up into a big bun on top of her head so she wouldn’t mess up her hair in sleep.

Her PJs were rather thick with winter, a sweater and some sweatpants to keep her body warm and she put her things away in her bag to make sure to keep clean.

Stella still needed a place to sleep so taking some of her clothes, she made a make shift bed for her and put out some training pads, hoping Stella understood when it was time to use them and not pee on something of Jack’s.

“Behave,” she whispered to Stella, tying her up so she wouldn’t get into Jack’s stuff.

All done with everything, Katelynn walked over to Jack’s bed, standing there a moment, wringing her hands together as she rubbed her legs together before pulling the covers back and slipping under them carefully.

She was in Jack’s bed. It felt strange, yet somehow right as she lay on her back, her hands resting on her stomach over the comforter. Her heart was beating and she wished so badly to snuggle up to him but her guilt kept her at bay as she willed herself to sleep.

“You won’t disturb me. You can read in bed besides me if you want.” he offered, reaching over to her, and traced his fingers against her jaw gently. “I’m. I’m sorry, if I did something wrong. I just.. I just… any little thing you do I adore. Even small things you may not think of and… yeah.”

He ended lamely, before kissing her quickly, tasting the pizza on her lips. “So, so if you want you can join me. It’s okay.” he smiled faintly.

She blushed again, her eyes half lidded as she stared at him. “I don’t really like it that you..think you do something wrong when you don’t..is all..I want you to be comfortable around me, love. You don’t have to apologize for anything..”

She brought a hand up to try to block her blush. “So don’t feel bad for anything, okay..?”

“Um.” Jack blushed, and filled his mouth with pizza, feeling shame. Why was he such a man? Getting so uppity and silly over something that was meant to be harmless fun? Yet his body had a mind of its own. Literally. He shrugged his shoulders at her. “I guess. After this though I’m. I might go to bed. I’m sorry but I’m tired…”

She set her pizza down, feeling slightly guilty for her antics earlier. Had she gone too far? She blushed and looked down a bit. “No problem..I’ll just..read my book and join you later then..I mean so I don’t disturb you going to sleep.”
