He reached out to her, and settled a hand against her hip, pulling her close to him. The press of her chest… oh gosh. Jack smiled faintly, that mustache he was growing on his upper lip curling with his lip. “Oh it is a big, bad world, Miss. Foster… but you know what else can be big, and bad?”

Being flush against him slightly, she tried to bite back a gasp, her hands trapped between their chests. “I’m going to guess..you..?” she asked, giving him a coy smile.

“Oh yes. Very. Big.” he insists, grinning at her, before he gives a chuckle, then a giggle, and shakes his head. “Oh man. I can’t believe I just said that!”

Jack almost made a mistake on his painting. Thankfully he pulled the brush away, his face turning purple at her tone, and how he felt her lips just touch his sensitive ear. He turned his head slightly, peering at her, eyes wide.

Where had that come from? He’d only been playing and my gosh. The tone she used.

“…n-no doubt, Miss. Foster…. now, forgive me if I seem rude but… these late nights? Your showy clothes…? The way you continually brush against me, despite having room to move?” Jack asked, snagging onto the game shakily at first, but gripped harder as he continued. “I would almost say you’re trying to seduce me.”

She had been so close to his side before that he could feel her chest pressed up against his arm. But she pulled away slightly to make a face of innocence, enjoying the game they were playing.

“Why Mr. Maple, such accusations without proof..” she purred slightly, putting a hand to her bandaged cheek. “I do no such thing..I’m simply a secretary trying to make it in this big, bad world..”

Jack smiled up at her. “Why thank you Miss. Foster… if you keep up such good work, you may see yourself getting a promotion real soon.” he told her in a smooth, deep voice, whilst looking at her with waggling eyebrows. But then he turned to go back to his painting, grinning faintly.

She blushed at his tone, once again affected by him and not wishing to be outdone, walked over to him to softly kneel next to him. Let’s see how he likes this.. She mused, leaning onto his side gently to whisper into his ear.

“Oh I always do good work..Mr. Maple,” she cooed near his ear, biting her lip after to stop a giggle from escaping.

“Mmhm.” Jack nodded his head as he settled back on the floor and went back to painting. “P for pizza. Er, obviously.” he said with a weak chuckle.

The mobile had… a lot of contacts. It was littered with names, probably most of them work related. A all the way to Z, and from what she’d seen he had a few messages waiting on his phone as well.

“Oh wow..this list is long..” she murmured, trying to reach the P section of his phone. It took her a while to scroll down to it but while she tried, she noticed the little message indicator and decided to have a little fun. Standing straight up, she tried to sound like a secretary, moving imaginary glasses out of the way.

“Mr. Maple, there are people on line two for you,” she said, trying not to giggle when she finally reached the one she had been looking for, hand ready to dial.

“I am kind of hungry,” Jack admits as he watches Roxy race away with the treat, intent on hiding it for later. Naturally, Stella chases after her, thinking it a game of who can get the treat first. Luckily, Roxy is very well mannered with other dogs or he’d be worried.

“How about a pizza?” he asked, “The place near by does chicken wings and chips as well as pizza, and they know my apartment kind of well.” he admits meekly. While he could cook, sometimes it was just easier to have someone else make the food.

“Okay,” she called back softly, looking around for his cell phone and finding it lying around. “I’m going to guess it’s in your contacts already then?”

She smiled at him teasingly, holding his phone in her hand . She wished she could have called from her own cell but of course she had put her phone service on hold until she could visit her phone carrier and get a new one.

“Oh it’s a pretty dark movie.” he admits, since it’s about loss of sanity, abuse, and sort of things like that. “But if you want to, we can. I think I have a copy…” he mused, looking towards where his DVD collection sat.

Katelynn set Stella down carefully, giving Roxy and her one more treat before putting it away in her bag. “Should I..order something for us to eat while we watch the movie? If you’re hungry I mean?”

She took her bag and walked it to his bedroom, setting it down against the wall and peering at his bed, wondering if they’d both fit all right on it. Or was she silly to assume they’d sleep in the same bed? She wasn’t sure.

She knew she was enjoying it so far, being here with him like this.

“Hah. Stella.” Jack grinned and leaned down, petting the puppy but quickly moving onto Roxy less his pug get incredibly jealous of him. He lifts her into his arms, the black pug sniffing and licking at his face. “That’s a great name! Plus now we can legitimately stand outside and yell ‘Stella’ without getting weird looks from people!”

She looked at him with an odd look.

“Street Car Named Desire. Marlon Brando back when he was young had a scene in it where he’s standing outside with a torn shirt yelling ‘Stella’.” he told her.

Katelynn giggled, bending down to pick her own puppy up and snuggle her a bit. “I think I remember seeing that in an episode of the Simpson’s..” she replied, before moving over to her bag and bringing out dog treats, offering one to Roxy. “Here you go cutie.”

She offered another one to Stella who ate it hungrily. “But..the original sounds good too..can we..watch it together?”

Jack kissed her forehead again before touching her unbandaged cheek. “Oh Katelynn you should have come to me straight away… I. I’m sorry I wasn’t there. I could have helped you, I’m a pretty fast runner I could have gotten the guy…?” he asked though really what would he do once he caught up to him? Flail like a wet cat?

Roxy barked at the puppy before barking up at her daddy, wuffing noisily. Jack looked down at the two dogs and smiled faintly. “And sorry, hello to you, little girl. Do you have a name now?”

“Her name is Stella,” she replied softly, bending down and petting her puppy and then Roxy. They seemed to like each other as Roxy tried to nudge Stella who was busy trying to get Katelynn’s attention.

“I made a post to my blog for help for names and Bernard told me “Stella” and I fell in love with it. It fits with my love for astronomy,” she replied, looking over at Jack and smiling softly.

“What? Y… you were…” Jack felt his heart freeze at the story. She was broken into? Robbed? His arms were back around her tightly and he shut his eyes. “Yes, yes! O-of course you can stay here you can stay as long as you want…!”

Oh God. How could he NOT let her stay? To be robbed… it must have been so scary for her.

She smiled against him, closing her eyes and enjoying his arms around her. Here she felt safe and protected. “Thank you Jack..I really appreciate it..I’ll try not to be a bother or take up too much space. You know me..always on the move anyway..I tried packing light too..just the necessities..it’ll be like I’m not even really here.”

Stella began to demand her attention again but she didn’t really notice the feel of her paws against her shoes.

Jack kissed her forehead again before touching her unbandaged cheek. “Oh Katelynn you should have come to me straight away… I. I’m sorry I wasn’t there. Roxy barked back, equally playful at this little thing that’s been brought before her and sniffs at her all over, slobbering here and there, ignoring how her daddy is preoccupied since she is, too.

Jack is a little surprised. He only saw her the day before… but still! He smiles, and hugs her back gently, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I missed you too.” he replied gently. But then he remembered. He’d only seen her face a second just now, but he’d seen…. Jack pulls back, arms still around her gently, his eyes widening at the bandage. “Katelynn what, what happened?” he asked.

She avoided his eyes for a moment, eyes filled with sadness. Her emotions were real even if the story wasn’t. “I was..sort of attacked in my apartment..someone tried to rob me..they stole my cell phone..I managed to chase them away though they put up a fight…”

She paused in her story, giving out another sigh, closing her eyes. “And well..I came here because I was wondering if I could stay with you for a while..here..sleep here I mean..I don’t want to stay in my apartment for now..I’m scared..”
