He just nodded, as he held her against him. For the first time in days he feels whole again. She’s been so busy, so distant, always away from him it felt as if he never saw her any more and couple that with the worry he’d been feeling these past few days… it makes the fact he’s holding her in his arms now all the more comforting. All the more wonderful.
“I love you.” is all he can say. “I love you, I love you…”
She smiled, allowing him to hold her and in turn holding him back before leading him into the bedroom, leading him to the bed and cuddle with him, to enjoy being in his arms as she rested against him, feeling a slight peace in her soul now, feeling this was where she belonged.
Because it was where she wanted to be, the only place she wanted to forever.

wrapped-in-shadows started following you
“That’s your opinion, and your opinion doesn’t matter to me.” Jack informed him calmly before turning away. “And that’s that.” he adds, putting his hands into his pockets as he begins to walk.
He groaned, not liking this. “Why that guy..why?” He would make sure to stay out of his way for sure. He didn’t want to get involved with those two ever again.
Strange 24 Hours
He chewed at his bottom lip, and looked away. “It is a s-scary thought…” it made any moment they had together their possibly last one. It wasn’t a nice thought. Jack reached over and placed his hand on her knee. “I, t-try not to think about it…?”
Katelynn did for the most part, every time she was at work and reminded about the portals. But she smiled at him and let out a deep breath. “I guess that’s all we can do..Bernard tried to comfort me about it and told me he didn’t think the portals would ever close but..”
She shrugged a shoulder, grabbing for her food again and tossing some of the bread for the birds to eat, watching the water move and rippling the image of the moon.
Jack nodded. He did his best to not ponder such things like that. So far his entire life had happened fairly ordinarily, nothing out of the ordinary either. He had found Katelynn and things just felt so much better for him. He felt braver. Stronger. Sure of himself. She did so much for him, did she know how much?
He moved closer to her, and he too tossed some bread to the birds.
They may be in different skin, but truly, nothing had changed at all. Certainly not his love for her. Nothing could change that.
Clinic
“‘M…. so grateful I… found you…” Jack whispered in his half sleep, half waking tone, his eyelids already shut, his body already easing into calm. It needed to sleep, after the fall, the rush, the pain, everything else that had happened today he needed to sleep.
But he felt her besides him. Pressing against him gently.
He normally hated hospitals. But this stay… he could get through this, as long as she was here.
“‘love you.” he whispered before drifting into unconsciousness.
“I love you too..” she whispered, knowing he couldn’t hear her but knowing he knew. She always tried to tell him when she could, and when she didn’t, she’d always show him somehow.
Leaning up, she gave him one last kiss before settling down again, her mind wandering without him conscious to keep her company. She thought about the future, about Jack and herself, what needed to be done. She knew they could face the future, because they had each other.
“Because you give me strength,” she whispered, her own mind shutting down for sleep, cuddling into his side.
Six Trouble
“Yes dear.” he replied with a smile before quickly turning and dug his hands against the door, leaned in, and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Now you go do what you’re doing. Okay? I’ll see you later.” he said before slipping into the lounge, the beaded doorway ‘door’ swishing after him when he left.
She stood there, blushing after him and put a hand to her lips. ‘Yes dear.’ He had said, almost as if they were married. She knew they were living together right now after the scare with Psycho and were going to move into a new apartment for space but it already felt like this was so right. And after he had asked her what he did days ago, she almost expected there to be a gold ring on her finger.
She banished the thought aside and moved to gather some clothes so she could go take a shower. She had her own work to do anyway. If Jack was working she didn’t want to just sit around relaxing.
After the Fight
“Just save the crusts.” Jack said simply, looking down at her, before he smiled and slowly eased her down onto her back on the bed, resting gently against her. “S’all I ask.”
He settled his head on the pillow besides her head, and sighed heavily as he looked at her. She’d sustained injuries he’d done his best to tend to, he had to trim her hair, and now they were once again resting in their bed together. Funny, how it was no longer his bed. Their bed. And when they move out, to find themselves a new place to live, combining their salaries they should be able to manage something wonderful.
Then it really would be theirs.
“Rest a bit.” he whispered. “Shut your eyes. I’m still here.”
She had been feeling sleepy ever since she stumbled into his apartment. She yawned a bit, showing him she was indeed tired. Jack’s presence was soothing, lulling her into a comfortable state of mind as her mind calmed. She was warm and..
”..Safe..” she whispered as her eyes began to slide shut. “Jack keeps me safe…”
She mumbled a soft “…love you..” before finally allowing her body to rest, falling completely asleep.
He smiled faintly as he held her there in his arms a moment longer. Jack wanted to sleep too, but he had work. Important work, and he only had a few days to do it. Gently he eased his arms away from her and tucked her into the bed. “I love you.” he whispered, kissing her forehead, before moving from the bedroom.
Jack had a weapon to manufacture, and he wasn’t going to do that in the bedroom. Not at all.
Total Coincidental Meeting
Even with his confidence levels being what they are, no fear of being taunted or hurt, the mention of Katelynn as his ‘little woman’ (which she was, she was shorter than him), brought a flush to his face. “Ah, yes. Yes. To all that. Yes.” he said, laughing nervously, tapping his fingers together.
“I’ll see you then, Steve. And thanks.” he nods again before turning and heading back out onto the main street, and moves with the crowds, head buzzing with ideas.Steve waves him off and says softly, mostly to himself. “Be careful on your way home little man.”
Stuck in the alley alone, he climbs a fire escape ladder and decides a different way to get home, his own ideas for how to train Jack in his mind.
Bruise
“Like we knew each other all our lives, just… just waiting to meet and when it did things just made sense.” Jack admits, looking her over, before he smiled and kissed the top of her head. “N-no more tears, Katelynn. We’re together. We have each other. That… that’s all I need.”
She nodded, holding onto him tightly, no longer wondering if it was best to leave him. She didn’t dare, didn’t want to. They would look for an apartment together, they would live together and be happy to be together. Love was all they needed. Love and happiness.
“It’s all I need too..” she whispered to him, closing her eyes in happiness as a smile spread across her face.
Together was how they would face things. Forever.
Day at the Amusement Park
Jack blinks in surprise at the offer. Dance? In public? He can’t dance well. But she’s asking, and they are trying to be spontaneous and not like themselves, right? He smiles and takes her hands and stands up, pulling her to him, keeping her hands in his.
“L-love to.” he said, blushing beneath the disguise, as he began to move to the music as best he can, dancing with her in public. And not many people even glance at them and there’s such a joy in that simple fact…
She snuggled into him, enjoying this one special moment. They had many wonderful days together, remembering when they had met, his birthday, the rooftop, every time they made beautiful love together and now this that she hoped their happiness could go on forever.
As long as she was in his arms, that’s all she needed.
Horrible
He recognized the face this time and he watched as she approached him, and he smiled faintly before holding his hand out to her. She took it, and it felt just the same as always. Their skins were just different, that was all. Their hearts were still the same, right?
“Ah… an amusement park?” he’s never been around so many people at once before but… he has to get better. He has to. For her. For him. “Sure…!”
She smiled at his enthusiasm, glad she was able to help him smile again. It sent her heart pounding in happiness. She squeezed his hand gently, a little hesitant to kiss his cheek. She missed seeing him as she always did, his blue skin and bald head, but this was just so they could avoid drawing the attention of the villains.
“All right then, let’s go have a day of fun then!” she exclaimed, beginning to walk out of the room and tug him along gently, gathering her purse and keys.
It was strange to feel so… optimistic, and happy, after feeling so horrible about the loss of his art. But he did. Of course there was some hesitation, being around all those people, but he really did look just so normal. No blue head. No pointed ears. No bald head. Nothing. He was normal. He squeezed her hand in anticipation.
“I can’t wait.” he whispered as he shut the door behind them.
