Asking for Help

He just nods, before he wraps his arms around her tightly, pressing his lips against her forehead. She wanted to. She would say yes. He was so afraid she wouldn’t, that she had seen that it was pointless being with a man like him. That all he had wasn’t enough, that she deserved better than an introvert who painted his life away. But she wanted to stay… she wanted to be with him, when the time came, and… oh gosh. He wishes they were safe now. That there was no danger, no threat, that he could whisk her away from the villains and the bad guys and just be with her, loving her with every part of him.

It will happen.” he thinks to himself. “It will.”

She snuggles into him on the bed, enjoying this bit of peace for a while, already dreaming of a future together with the love of her life. They’d get through it all together. She was sure of it.

Taking a Trip

And they held each other, both needing one another at this time, unable to pull away. No matter what it was that life had in store for them, be it a baby or not, Katelynn would have to know by now that Jack would be there for her, never faltering. He may stutter, and mumble, and shy back at the idea of large gatherings but she was someone he would never let down for as long as he lived.

“Thank you..for loving me..” she whispered, still holding onto him as the bus continued onward toward home.

Toward whatever future lay ahead of them.

“Thank you…” was all he could say, heart preparing him for whatever lay ahead. As long as she was there, he would manage.

He knew it.

Ringing in the New Year

He smiles, and rubs her back through the blanket. “Goodnight sweetie.” he whispers a second time, before making his way to the bed. He feels exhausted. Gutted. He pulls his shoes off and climbs into the cot, and rolls onto his side. Jack imagines, as hard as he can with his fading imagination, that Katelynn’s there with him. That he can wrap his arms around her, pull her in close, and feel her breath against his cheek as she slept.

The idea helped, and it isn’t long until he’s in dreamland… dreaming of the day when she wouldn’t be in hospital. When he could look after her, properly. Just like he was supposed to, and would do, for the rest of his life if he had his say in it.

Katelynn peaks at him from the under the covers and smiles, feeling safe, protected, and most of all happy. She couldn’t wait to get out of the hospital and cuddle next to him. But for now she’s content to have him near, to know he’s watching over her.

Snuggling into her bed, she closes her eyes, dreaming of a future with Jack.

Treatment Plan

“I thought so…” Jack said quietly. “I’m doing my best, trying to help her think better of herself. She’s so wonderful and I just wish she could see herself like I do but.. hah… really it’s the same from her to me. Without her I’m really kind of… not the most confident man. But when she’s around I feel like I am. For her sake. But thank you again for calling me, Doctor Brink. I’m going to do my best to look out for her, to help her in her recovery.”

“You are welcome, young man,”  the doctor replied, voice soft. “Take care of each other and I will most likely see you during my rounds with Katelynn. Good day.”

“Good day Doctor Brink.” Jack said as he hung up the phone and stared at it for a moment before easing Roxy off of him. “I think I’m going to go visit Katelynn. She’ll need the company after seeing a doctor… I hate doctors…” he mumbled as he paused to take a few photos of Roxy, if to show Katelynn to show her the Pug was doing well.

He gathered up his things, promised Roxy he wouldn’t be too long, and headed off.

“Hm. I don’t really… hrm.” Jack frowned slightly before he chuckled. “If you believe I am… I think I’ll begin to believe it, too… If only for your sake. …but… maybe a bit for myself, as well… I don’t want to be weak. I want to be stronger so if I think those things… maybe I’ll believe them and be better for it.”

She nodded, content with that answer. “Good, because it’s all true. So keep believing it and repeating it to yourself. Don’t ever doubt yourself, just as you don’t towards me.”

She kissed his cheek, nuzzling him and looking forward towards the future with him.

It looked even brighter thanks to him.

“Sorry. I will in future. I promise.” Jack replied softly, brushing his chin against the top of her head softly. “And same goes for you… all right…?”

She nodded against him though still saying a confident, “All right” in case he didn’t feel her nod. She was content in his arms; safe and protected. He denied being able to protect her but…

“Your arms really do keep me safe and loved..” she whispered to herself, unsure if he heard her. She hadn’t taken her medication but it amazed her how he even protected her from that.

She hardly felt sore.

He didn’t hear her, not really, but that didn’t stop him from holding her. Nothing would dare to stop him from holding her at this moment.

Nothing.

And have fun working! *Waves as she walks away*

*jack watches her as she goes, before a small, smitten smile crosses his face and he gives a small sigh before turning and walking away*
