Jack had stared at the transformation with wide eyes and the second his fiancee was back to her normal, rather naked, self he gasped. Then he wrapped his arms around her protectively, pulling her against him and slightly shielding her from Violet’s eyes even if she had nothing Violet hadn’t seen before. “I-it worked!” he hadn’t expeected it to, honestly, he thought it was something else that had to be done to free Katelynn from her pokemon body but no, no. Something that simple. He reached out and took hold of the clothes in Violet’s hands. “T-thank you.” he mumbled as he handed them to Katelynn.

“No problem!” Violet squeaked, her eyes tightly closed as she held the clothes out to him at arm’s length. She had watched the transformation with shock – like the other two, she hadn’t expected undoing the magic to be that easy, but she couldn’t deny she was glad it was over. “Are you okay, Katelynn?”

“Y-Yeah,” she replied, pulling her shirt on quickly, her hair trapped between skin and cloth. “Thank you so much for your help Violet..I didn’t really expect that..But I’m glad to be back to normal.”

How embarrassing though, not having figured her clothes were in the PokeBall. Slipping her pants back on, she peeked over Jack’s shoulder to offer her the other girl a kind smile despite the amount of red on her cheeks.

Jack laughed slightly, unable to help himself since, well. He feels relieved. He’d been afraid Katelynn would be stuck like that creature for a while and that would have been very strange. Still, he reaches, and helps her tug her hair gently out from under her clothes and gives her cheek a quick kiss. “Welcome back.” he whispered to her before, once knowing she was dressed, getting to his feet.

“T-thank you for helping her, Violet. I h-hate to imagine if, if anyone else may have f-found her first…” he said.

He sat down on the ground now, hugging his knees to his chest. “Hm. Well… in the game when a pokemon’s no longer wanted by the trainer they release them via Bill’s PC. An-and in the anime Ash just lets his pokemon go, thre’s no real… ceremony or… breaking of the pokeball it just. Goes away to live its life. I don’t know.” he shrugged weakly.

Katelynn moved over to sit by him, bringing several sheets with her. It was rather difficult to write without something hard underneath the paper but she tried her best and wrote as fast as she could.

Sounds good. Might work?” She hated how horrible her writing was; like some child writing for the first time.

Violet listened to both of them, considering the idea. It seemed like a good enough one to try. Really, she hadn’t wanted to become a trainer in the first place – especially not of a Pokemon who was, in fact, another sentient person. It had nasty personal implications for her, on a number of levels.

“I’ll give it a try.” She took the ball out again, and held it with a flourish (even if Jack had said ceremony wasn’t required, she’d had the lesson of Presentation! drilled into her too deeply). “Katelynn, I, your trainer, release you. Go be free and, uh, live long and prosper.”

They were the words that the magic anon had set for her, her body beginning to glow rather bright as the PokeBall in Violet’s hand hummed and vibrated, transformed into Katelynn’s clothes in her palm.

Meanwhile Katelynn’s Pokemon body shifted and stretched out, her hair transforming back into the soft tendrils, hips and arms changing back into the creamy color, leaving her naked and kneeling on the ground.

“Lilli..” she said out of habit and panted a bit, feeling strange yet familiar back in her own skin. “I-…I’m back..I can…I can talk!”

Though when she glanced down at herself slowly, she noticed the state of her undress and cried out, moving behind Jack and tucking her body as much into a ball as possible. “S-Sorry!”

“…” Jack suddenly dropped down to his knees, reached out, and pulled Katelynn into his arms, shutting his eyes tightly as he did. “I m-missed you so much.” he mumbles. “I h-hate it when you v-vanish on me a-and I thought we weren’t g-going to do that a-anymore and n-now look at you oh Katelynn…” he shook his head. “I’m j-just glad you’re back e-even like this, you’re here. T-that’s you, I know i-it is…” he pulls back, keeping his arms loosely around her and smiled sadly at her. “W-what a life we lead.” he mumbles before looking up at Violet from his place on the floor.

“W-well trainers are su-supposed to look after the pokemon.. b-battle them against others, growing t-together in confidence and ab-abilities. Bu-but I don’t think Katelynn should b-be fighting anyone. Not really.” at least like this… he looked back down at Katelynn and rubbed the back of her ‘head’ gently.

She chirped happily at this rubbing despite the ache in her heart that still beat within her chest. I shouldn’t have done..it was stupid of me and I’m sorry..

Her guilt was almost palpable, moving around the room that surely Violet could feel it. She snuggled her oddly shaped head against his shoulder, the fragrance from her flowering flowing around Jack, a calming powder that came out during emotional times.

I don’t want to fight..I’m not..this is insane..just because I have powers now? No..I just want to go back to normal so I can be with him and my friends again.. and be able to talk for myself..

“Lilli..” she whispered against his shoulder, feeling safe in his arms.

Violet knelt down beside the unusual couple. She kept a little distance – this was a deep, personal moment between the two of them, and she didn’t want to interrupt too much – but stayed close enough that she could reach out and touch Katelynn if she had to, for translation purposes.

“I agree with both of you,” she said. “I’ve got no intention of making you fight, Katelynn. Honestly? I never liked that aspect of the games.” She made a face. “Fighting in defense is one thing, but battling just for the sake of battling? Not a good way of life.” She could have gone on a tangent about all the fun, non-violent adventures that should be possible with such amazing companions, but decided this wasn’t the time.

“It’s up to you what you wanna do.” This was addressed to both of them. “But we oughta find a way for her to communicate on her own first.”

“And t-try to work out how to turn her b-back into her normal self.” Jack added, smelling that soft fragrance coming from her. How strange it all was, this whole thing. He sighed, and licked his bottom lip for a moment. “W-well… back when she couldn’t talk in the h-hospital she wrote on a note book…? Can you h-hold a pencil, maybe?” he asked Katelynn while his brain began to try to work out a way to turn her back. Normally magical anons turn off after time but then again some had rules or specifications to be met…

He knelt down and picked up the ring and held it against his chest a moment. It was still warm. Why did that matter? His brain didn’t know in what directiong to go; he’d been upset that she’d pulled another ‘I’m leaving you a note and not coming home for a few days’ thing, and had been going to talk to her about it but now this, and the sudden fear of losing the only family heirloom he had, seeing Katelynn like this… he took a deep breath and got to his feet.

“We have to w-work out how to reverse this…” he said as he pushed the ring onto his own ring finger for safe keeping. His fingers were slender so it slid on easily. “I, I’ve played a few of the games myself but I don’t… really know how to c-change someone…” Jack admitted weakly. “I m-mean there’s pokemon transfers, day c-care, battles… w-which one will change her back I d-don’t know…” he was certain that he wasn’t going to marry a pokemon, that much he knew.

Looking up when he picked up the ring and watching him the way she was, Katelynn had the sudden urge to hug him, a long chirp of unhappiness escaping from her as she wobbled forward a bit.

“Lilli…” she breathed, picking up one leafy had and extending it out toward him, eyedrop eyes watching him sadly. She had to keep one hand on Violet though to make sure to girl could hear better, or so she surmised.

I-I want to hug him but I don’t know if he wants me to..I must be..he probably things I’m gross like this…or weird..right..?

“I’ve never really played them myself,” Violet said, “but I’ve never heard of anyone being transformed into a creature, or even the other way around.” Which, now that she thought about it, seemed like a waste of a good story – very fairy tale-ish. “Apparently since I was the first one who found her, the magic made me her ‘trainer’, but I don’t know what to do with that.”

As she picked up Katelynn’s thoughts, and watched her reaching out to her beloved, a lump rose in her throat. She petted the leafy “hand” gently, and said to Jack, “… She wants to know if she can hug you.”

Naturally, Jack stared. It was the best thing anyone in his circumstances could do. His fiancee was a pocket monster. She had been gone two days, something he’d been unhappy about of course, only to have her return to him like this? He took astep back, holding the door open for the two, expression still fairly blank.

“A… all right… I…” he looked down at the pokemon that was his fiance and felt a jolt rush through him. “W-where’s my grandmothers ring?” she didn’t have fingers. While of course he was worried over the fact she’d been turned into this… this thing, the safest place for his mind to grabble onto as if he was clinging to a cliff face was the familiarity of the family ring he’d given Katelynn.

Oh god his ring..Did I drop it..? Please no… she wondered, searching around herself for it. It took her a few minutes but in all of her shaking the ring somehow managed to drop from her person and onto the floor at Jack’s feet, Katelynn giving a a chirp of relief.

There is it.. she thought, looking up over at Violet and waiting for her to translate. I feel really bad..I’m glad it didn’t get lost..I guess I lost my De-gun though?

She tried to shake herself, wondering if maybe that was on her person as well. It ended up falling from somewhere onto the ground.

It came as a relief to Violet as much as to the others. She hadn’t seen any items on the ground when she’d found Katelynn’s ball, and had been afraid she’d missed something. When the ring dropped out, however, she picked it up carefully. “Looks like it’s okay, Mr. Maple.”

The de-gun she left alone, though she gave it a wary look. When did she get one of those? Katelynn, you’re just full of surprises.

“I think that’s probably all,” she said to the other two. “She was in the ball when I found her, and I didn’t see anything lying around. Maybe the rest of it will come back once we figure out how to reverse the spell.”

He knelt down and picked up the ring and held it against his chest a moment. It was still warm. Why did that matter? Jack was, ironically enough, working on a piece of art that looked like a plant coming to life and ripping itself up out of its pot plant. He heard a voice outside the door and the familiar sound of foot steps. The voice, though, was familiar. “Violet?” he asked himself as he got up and away from his work bench and pulled the door open. First one he noticed was the dark skinned girl, of course, and smiled faintly in greeting. “H-hey Violet how are y-y….” then he stopped since he spotted Katelynn or, by his rights, a pokemon.

He yelped and stepped back, green eyes wide. “W-w-what’s going o-on?” he asked.

“Nice to see you again, Mr. Maple,” Violet tried to keep things light. She gestured to the Lilligant standing beside her. “I wish it was under better circumstances, though. The magical anons went through town again, and Katelynn here got hit by one.”

She produced the empty PokeBall from her coat pocket. “I found her on the street just now. She’s okay, but, well, we haven’t figured out how to reverse this.”

With her free hand, she reached for Katelynn’s leafy tendril. If the transformed woman wanted to speak, Violet would act as her translator.

Oh Jack I’m so sorry..I’ve been gone and now this… She lowered her gaze to the floor, feeling embarrassed to have him see her this way.

“Lilligant..” she chirped unhappily, wondering if this meant she would have to be away from him to stay with Violet until they figured it out. Unless Violet wanted to stay with them?

Naturally, Jack stared. It was the best thing anyone in his circumstances could do. His fiancee was a pocket monster. She wobbled out as fast as she could though it seemed the elevator doors were faster, closing and snagging the leaf that was supposed to be her hair in the doors.

“Lilligant!” she cried, stumbling back a step and feeling the pain of it tug on her scalp. Ouch! Geez I’m too slow..! Sorry..! She couldn’t reach the button to open the doors again either, staying back to not hurt herself further.

Oh crap! Violet heard Katelynn’s distressed cry and sensed her pain, and hurried back over to her trapped friend. “Oh, uh, hold on!” She hit the button again, hoping the doors would open quickly, without hurting her in the process. “Just hold still …”

Fortunately, she’d acted fast enough, and Katelynn was soon freed. “Are you okay? Maybe you’d better lead the way,” she added.

T-Thanks.. she thought, moving forward toward her apartment door. She didn’t have her key on her, wondering if the door was open instead and knocking on it, chirping loudly.

“Lilligant!” she cried, feeling rather miserable and wondering if Jack was going to be confused by her voice.

Wrapping her leaf hand around the knob, she tried turning it but of course it was locked.
