His eyes, bright, green, acidic, unlike normal green eyes you would see on people from time to time, stared back into her own with a look that she thought only existed in films and literature. His eyes were always so expressive of his feelings, denying him, fighting him, exposing when he felt most vulnerable despite trying to hid it behind a mask.

But they were as open, and honest, as always and he was looking at her as if she was the only woman in the world, the most beautiful, most important, most special… as if she was it, and he knew how lucky he was to be this close to her. Because, honestly, he knew how lucky he was. Almost thirty years old, Jack Maple was, and had gone this long without a girl showing the slightest bit of interest in him. The fact that her, the soft spoken photographer, had welcomed him like this into her heart was nothing short of a miracle for him.

He smiled against her lips, shakily, and he returned the sensation of her tongue just touching his bottom lip by doing the same. He, slightly cheekily, slightly shyly, slid his tongue out and brushed it against her bottom lip.

She moved closer to him still, entranced by him, her chest pumping up against his, her arms the only thing separating them as she sucked in a soft breath, her tongue hesitantly reaching out for his.

Her mind screamed at her, asking her when she had become this brave. She had shied away from many men, never interested in them because they never stirred her heart like Jack had done, Jack who was so different from any guy in ways of his personality. She had never noticed his skin color, seeing only his eyes and the emotions behind them, falling for his personality and soul. It was why it was so easy to be with him and love him.

She was lucky the old man in the bed next to her was asleep, the curtain pulled to give him, and thus them, privacy.

She was happy, at the same time, to see him be bold enough to do what he was doing to her, feeling herself melt against him at his gentle and teasing caresses. She loved how she fit against him, her body feeling as if it had been molded for him.

If her mind was screaming, Jack’s was conducting a full orchestra with speakers plugged in that enhanced the volume into ultimate surround sound only to have it channeled directly back into his poor ears. He’d never kissed a girl before her. Never kissed anyone besides his parents cheeks and foreheads; and that hardly counted when it came down to it.

But for Katelynn… for Katelynn he was more than willing to live through all the screams of his mind, all of them for her. His anxieties had to melt at some point, they had to, no way would they keep voicing their opinions so noisily with her lips so close to his, with her breath mixing with his own and her body molding against his as if they’d been built specifically for one another just at this moment.

One of his hands remained on her shoulder whilst the other moved down her body, slowly, gently, ever so carefully until he wrapped down around her back, holding and caressing, keeping her close as well as safe. Of course they were safe, they were in a hospital, yet he was still plagued by the idea of something happening. Of waking up alone in his bed, that this was nothing but an elaborately long dream sequence and he wold wake up without knowing her, without touching or kissing her.

Their tongues finally met, though it was just the tips that finally brushed against one another. Jack’s shivered and for a moment wanted to vanish back into the depths of his mouth out of shame and embarrassment since he had never kissed someone like this… but neither had she. They were both equally new to this sort of thing, so why was he feeling shy? Or embarrassed? It made no sense. Shutting his eyes on a soft, pleased noise, he pushed his tongue forward so it brushed more against hers.

It sent spikes through his body, mind, and soul at the sensation. No wonder they always kissed like this in the movies. It was the next step up. They weren’t innocent little children stealing kisses behind a school yard fence any more. They were beyond that… and he had taken those steps with her. And he loved her even more for it.

There was a heat growing within the depths of his heart and was spreading to every single part of his body, he was sure if he was to look in a mirror right now his blue skin would be nothing but purple. He had never, ever this this way before, this longing, this affection, some desire and the butterflies that had suddenly erupted in his stomach were flying in praise of her, celebrating what she had done to him and was doing to him.

His hands tried their best not to shake, truly they did but the only way to do it would be to grip at her tighter and he couldn’t do that to her like this. She was still recovering, still bruised in places he was sure of and wouldn’t dare try to find out like this. It would be horrible if he worsened a bruise at a pivotal moment like this.

Her mouth suddenly felt so much… more? Hrm, words were beginning to stop working within his artistically minded mind. Which was a shock since he had been raised in a home of art, music, writing and expression that made art such a simple thing for him to handle. Poetry, writing, it was all a part of who he was and yet now he couldn’t begin to think of the right word to describe how he felt now. What she felt like.

The blue man’s tongue only just touched her bottom lip before he broke the kiss. Not because he wanted to, Heavens no if he could have he would have held the kiss for as long as the world itself would spin around the sun but breathing was something he, and she, needed in order to survive. His lips didn’t leave hers entirely; technically they were still touching, but far enough apart to allow the two parties to breathe.

Her eyes were dark as they opened slightly, her hands still clinging to his shirt tightly, the cloth at his back showing off his form for anyone who could see. Her mouth panted against him, her breath mingling with his.

He had literally taken the breath away from her, her feelings making her bold, wanting and craving his affection as well as wishing to give. She could have sworn she felt his tongue on her lips and her tongue darted out to lick at her own, accidentally brushing up against his.

Could a love really be so strong? She wondered as she looked up into his eyes, enjoying his scent and proximity.

His eyes, bright, green, acidic, unlike normal green eyes you would see on people from time to time, stared back into her own with a look that she thought only existed in films and literature. His hands left hers slowly, and she felt his fingers slowly, still hesitantly, as they trailed up her arms to rest on her shoulders as they still held the kiss. They hadn’t kissed this long before, feeling each others lips pressing so closely. Their noses brushed against one another, and she could feel his breath just against her cheeks as he shifted his head slightly.

Jack’s goatee, as well, tickled against her chin as he still kissed her.

Words had never really been his strong point. Once upon a time, maybe, back when he was young and naive to how the world worked. How boastful he’d once been, about how smart he thought he was. How different and unique, before the world in the form of his school mates made him know he wasn’t special. He had become so quiet, so withdrawn. Now a days, thanks to Katelynn he did so much better but sometimes he so easily became that quiet little boy time and time again.

He didn’t want to be that little boy any more. Especially when she was with him. He had to be strong. He had to be. For her. If not her, than who?

Then his mouth opened against hers, and for a fleeting moment it seemed as if he was about to deepen it…

She shivered against him, his kiss causing pleasurable goosebumps along her skin, this kiss not as innocent as the last ones. She had never experienced something like this, feeling something pool inside of her, filling up her stomach. The feeling was foreign, a bit scary, but still empowering.

Her cheeks were stained red, her hands free to move around as they grabbed at his shirt, shifting her closer to him, her mind making her move without her knowing.

She had transformed before him, becoming strong and trying to give him some of her strength. She had survived so much since moving to Metro City that she had seen her own change. They always said love was also about not wanting your love to change for you. And while she never wanted him to, if he wanted to she would support him and love him.

When she felt the kiss deepen, she felt a tiny moan escape her mouth, wondering where it had come from. She thought she would be scared to feel this way but she trusted Jack so completely that she didn’t fear him.

He would never hurt her. Ever.

His face was purple like a grape when she leaned in like that, looking at him like that and how he felt her lips and breath brushing against his partly open mouth. When had she become this bold? Was it him doing this? No, surely not. He couldn’t inspire this kind of a change in her surely.

But he still smiled for her; she said she liked seeing it after all, so why would he deny her something so simple to do?

“I.. I just love you so much.” was all he could say, as his hands found hers, before their lips found one another and he kissed her softly.

Her heart fluttered when his lips descended upon hers, having missed the contact after so many days of being behind that oxygen mask. Her eyes slid closed, feeling a warmth spreading through her chest. She tried showing him through the kiss how much he meant to her, how she needed him and how she offered herself to him, hoping he’d understand it all.

But could lips communicate together like words and even simple hand holding could?

His hands left hers slowly, and she felt his fingers slowly, still hesitantly, as they trailed up her arms to rest on her shoulders as they still held the kiss. “Y-you went to… web-websites? Really?” he asked quietly. But really, that was no better than what he did. He read books on the damn thing. And his romance movies. He knew it was good to be open, and honest, and not keep things hidden. She knew how shy he was, how he thought little of himself from time to time. There wasn’t anything else he could hide from her, even if he wanted to.

And he didn’t want to.

“Hm. D-don’t worry, Katelynn. I’ve got no secrets. M-my parents taught me it isn’t n-nice to keep things from people you care about and..” he took her hand into his. “And I care about you a lot…”

She smiled, leaning forward bravely so that their lips were really close, her eyes looking at them. “I care about you a lot too..I just want to make you happy, that’s it. Love isn’t selfish and that’s all I’ve been lately. But from now on I’m going to try harder,” she sighed near his lips, her eyes becoming half lidded, “to make you as happy as I can. To always make you smile.”

Her heart hammered in her chest, even though they kissed plenty of times already, each one felt new to her. His lips were always so soft.

He didn’t know if just coming here every day counted as bravery. He came here because he adored her, because he loved talking to her and seeing her get better every day. Maybe he had fallen super hard but he didn’t feel bad about it, why would he? But only now, hearing all she wanted to do, reminded him how weak he was.

But he wasn’t going to go on about that. Not in front of her. It was wrong to do that. Keep the insecurities inside. Deep, deep inside. They can’t hurt her then.

“…o-okay.” he mumbled quietly. “I’m sorry if, if I upset you…’

She shook her head, a sad smile on her face. “You didn’t…I’m the one who upset you..I should be the one saying sorry…It’s just..Grace told me to share things and I even looked up advice on the internet on my phone..”

She blushed deeply, looking down. “Relationship advice…Cause I’m still so new at this and always wondering things and websites would talk about being honest and sharing with your l-lover, not having secrets. It makes for a healthy relationship. So I want to be honest with you, to always tell you things so you know what’s going on.”

Even if she was still keeping her darkest secret from him, wondering how or when would be the best day to tell him so he really would know everything.

Looking back up at him, she kissed his chin lovingly. “And I hope you do the same with me. I’ll always listen and offer support. I’ll try my best to give you advice on anything.”

He hated feeling weak too. “I want you to be happy too though,” she argued back softly, closing her own eyes at feeling his forehead on her cheek. “And what would make me happy is not to worry you. All I want is to be able to be with you, without the threat of Psycho Delic looming over our heads.”

She leaned back to cup his cheeks tenderly in her hands, looking into your eyes. “But Jack…please don’t say you’re not strong. You are..You are! You were brave enough to save me that day. You were brave enough and caring enough to come looking for me after the accident. Brave enough to love me despite how messed up I am, brave enough to be with me everyday, supporting me and being yourself. You give me bravery. You are my strength and I want to be yours. You told me to never argue about how you think I’m beautiful.”

She smiled at him. “Well this works both ways, except I don’t want you thinking you’re not strong and brave when you are.”

Jack shut his eyes, unable to help but feel so suddenly small, weak, and pathetic all over again. His own girlfriend was talking about becoming a super hero and what was he doing? Sitting in his apartment painting. Day in. Day out. What good did he contribute to anyone? He gave them something pretty to look at while people were out there risking their lives to protect the city.

“B-but if… if someone else did… what…” he mumbled. “W-what could I do…”

The hands on his moved up to wrap around his back, pulling him in for a hug. She hated to see him like this, to see that sad expression on his face. And it was her fault. She had to make it right somehow.

“If..if it worries you that much..everything I’ve said..I won’t do it..I won’t try to become a hero..I just want to keep you safe…The first time Psycho came up to me and I learned who he really was, I realized how weak I was. I wanted to become stronger for myself so he couldn’t try that again. And then when he appeared again and you tried to hit him..I was so scared for you. Then I realized it wasn’t just me I wanted to be strong for. I wanted to be strong for you, so you wouldn’t get hurt. You’re the reason I want to do this, so you’ll be safe. You mean so much to me that I couldn’t bear it if you were hurt because I’m too weak to defend myself.”

The fact she admitted she may never do it brought a small wave of calm over his raging heart and mind. She might end up not doing it. Self defence classes, those were safe. It didn’t mean going out looking for trouble, to work along with Metro Man who he honestly hoped wouldn’t encourage her like this Six person was.

And then she mentioned Destruction Worker.

“Y-you know a m-member of the D-D-D-Doom Syndicate?” he asked, voice shaking.

She nodded, shaking a bit. “I met him before I met you. It was during a..bit of a dark time for me..I stopped him from causing trouble with words alone and somehow we became friends. I mean I stopped being his friend for a while but then he visited me here in the hospital and we talked things over and now we have a sort of friendship. He’d never hurt me, Jack,” she insisted, hand on her chest to stop her own hammering heart.
