Jack’s eyes had steadily gotten bigger in his head as she had talked. His heart was already aching at seeing her in a hospital bed, the threat of seven months in a wheel chair, of painful physiotherapy awaiting her after that; but the fact she wanted to go out on the streets in a costume, fighting alongside the likes of Metro Man and this… this Six person. Who was that? Who was he to put these ideas in her head?

He could see himself sitting at home, alone, worrying over her. Concerned as to her health.

And Psycho Delic? The crazed maniac who took joy in messing with peoples heads before out right killing them? His heart was beating so fast within his chest you could probably dance to it.

“…” he said nothing, unable to speak.

When he didn’t say anything, she looked up at his face through her lashes, seeing him in shock. Of course he’d be shocked, having such a bomb dropped on him. Here she was with broken legs talking about going out and fighting crime when she looked weak enough that the wind would blow her over.

“I’m not..sure if I’m even going to do it yet..I mean..I’d have to see,” she tried to explain quickly. “I know it’ll take me a long time too, before I can..I’d need a lot of training but everyone seemed happy with the idea. So happy at having me want to join them. And it made me excited, because then I’d be useful. It meant I could help out. Metro Man was really hurt and it scared me to hear that. Maybe with another in their ranks then they’d have a better chance?”

Her shoulders slumped. “And Destruction Worker seemed to like the idea too. He said I could fight him and he would let me win so I could be taken seriously. It was really nice of him to offer that.”

The fact she admitted she may never do it brought a small wave of calm over his raging heart and mind. She might end up not doing it. Self defence classes, those were safe. It didn’t mean going out looking for trouble, to work along with Metro Man who he honestly hoped wouldn’t encourage her like this Six person was.

And then she mentioned Destruction Worker.

“Y-you know a m-member of the D-D-D-Doom Syndicate?” he asked, voice shaking.

“Costume designs f… for you?” he wasn’t sure if he heard her right. “Huh?”

She squirmed in her bed a bit, looking down at her lap. “I’ve had some visitors lately..Metro Man and my friend Six..and they’ve been telling me some things about things happening outside of Metro City..and somehow the topic came about…about the self defense lessons I was going to take..and well I was joking at first but Six took me seriously and we eventually began talking about me becoming a vigilante or her

Jack smiled as she took a few bites, but would be sure to ensure she ate the whole thing, and the fruit he brought her. The last thing he wanted was her recovery being affected because of her frail shape. He sat on the edge of the bed, taking her note pad from her.

“Yeah a lot of them said they saw my work… s-said they saw the posters and stuff so they looked into my work… my websites hit numbers are flying.” he explained before he looked down at the page.

“…oh, what’s this?&rdquo%

“Work was great!” he answered happily as he took a sandwich out, unwrapped it, and physically put it into one of her hands, taking the pencil from her. He didn’t want her getting sick because she wasn’t eating. Not after what the doctor told him. “I got paid, I got a few more jobs… it’s all the same, really…!”

“That’s wonderful,” she said, smiling at him. She looked down at the sandwich in her hand, deciding to take a bite if it meant pleasing him. She tried to chew and swallow fast, resting the sandwich back onto the table after. “I’m sure your customers really loved them. They’ll probably tell their friends and with word of mouth and the gallery, you’ll become really famous.”

Giggling, she reached for her notebook to show her some more of the drawings she had done, the page open to her costume designs by accident. “Maybe with practice I’ll eventually became famous too?” She joked.

And then there he was, it seemed as though all she had to do was think of him and he would appear. Jack walked in with a lunchbox in his hands.

“Katelynn!” he greeted her as he walked in through the door, quickly closing the space between them and before she could greet him he kissed her softly. “How are—Katelynn, you’re pale!” Jack said, concern lining his voice as he set the lunchbox on the bed. “Here, I made you some sandwiches. They’re your favorite!” he said, as he opened the lid and held them out to her.

She sat there, stunned at Jack for a moment, a flutter of happiness moving into her heart at his sudden appearance. “Jack! You’re here! How’d work go?”

Another day, another stop at home. Jack had quickly given the place a bit of a clean, fed and watered and walked Roxy, before heading right on back to the hospital. He hadn’t even slept in his own bed in days but he honestly didn’t care about that. Today had been a busy day, he had dropped off a few paintings to people that were owing, he’d picked up a few more jobs, the usual sort of thing.

But now was the time to focus on his girlfriend, and he hummed to himself as he made his way through to her room.

Katelynn rested in her room, the TV on as she sketched on the table, the purple bruise yellowing down. She looked healthier but was becoming pale from not eating again, having been too busy sketching and things to really eat.

She smiled as she designed the new costume for when she became a hero, trying to draw some pictures of Six flying through the sky around her. She was still having trouble coming up with a proper name.

Her application to the new apartment was being reviewed and she was merely waiting for news on if she got it or not. She had seen a picture of it and was quite excited over how cute it looked. She was glad the building had elevators so she could get around.

Plus it would be closer to Jack.

Her heart quickened at the thought of him, a love-sick smile on her face. He had been so busy with work lately that she was starting to miss him. She hoped he was doing well.

Realizing her pencil was no longer moving, she continued drawing to distract herself.

And then there he was, it seemed as though all she had to do was think of him and he would appear. Jack walked in with a lunchbox in his hands.
