Out of the Hospital!

“Of course it’s okay!” she exclaims, hands in her lap, feeling so happy she’s practically bouncing in her seat. “I’m so glad you two are friends now. And hey, Six knows Alice, Jack knows Alice. I guess that’s another connection you two have.”

“Yeah that was another thing. Funny how it works out doesn’t it?” Six asks on a laugh before squeezing around the two to rush ahead to the door. “All right now I don’t think there’s enough room for your wheelchair in here yet but that’s why you’re here, to tell me where to move things.” Six says as he opens the door with the key Jack gave in, and vanishes inside.

It’s the same size as Jack’s apartment, and Katelynn’s furniture is more or less piled anywhere. Of course the bed is in the bedroom, the couches and such in the lounge and he’s already moved her fridge and stove here. There’s boxes of things as well, all piled up and ready to be told where to go. He’s written on the boxes too, saying what is what.

“Oh wow you… you w-work fast…” Jack mumbled when he looked in on the room.

A thought occurred to her then, looking back and forth between the two men. “How do you two know each other by the way?”

“Dumb luck.” Six said with a shrug as he walked along behind them as they entered the building. “I was just leaving the hospital after visiting you and there’s Jack arriving. Of course when you see another blue man you have to stop and say hello, and turns out we both know you. We’ve been texting a bit, right Jack?” Six asked. “He mentioned you needed help to move your things so I offered since it’s nothing for me.”

“O-only in passing but he was s-so insistent on h-helping you so I said yes… I, I hope that’s okay…?” Jack asked weakly.

“Six!” she exclaims, opening her arms out for him. “Oh my god Six!” She’s so happy to see him, glad to be out of the hospital and now having him here. Her face is bright with happiness.

“Hey Katelynn,” he says once she’s out of the taxi he hugs her as tightly as he can. “oh it’s so good to see you out of that horrible place…” Six mumbles to her before pulling back, grinning. “I’ve already taken the liberty of bringing all your things from your old apartment here,” he gestures to the building. They’re actually at Jack’s apartment block, not Katelynn’s at all.

“But I don’t know where you want them all to go. So let’s go, right?” he asks, before glancing at Jack with a smile. “Glad she’s out now huh?”

“Oh you’ve n-no idea.” Jack said as he moves around to grip the back of Katelynn’s wheelchair and begins to push her inside. “And you’ve d-done it already? Wow, y-you are good… thank you so much…”

And look who was just arriving on time to help her into her new home. Jack, dressed in the usual turtleneck and jeans, this time with a scarf due to the cool breeze drifting through the air, comes out of the elevator to see Katelynn there with the nurse.

“Katelynn, s-sweetie…!” he greets her as he approaches, reaches out and touches her shoulder. He isn’t nearly brave enough to kiss her in public, or with someone else there, though he wishes he was. “Today’s the big day…!”

She smiles brightly at him, Katelynn no longer dressed in an ugly hospital gown, hair actually done up in a bun with a cute little clip. It was the first time she had ever done her hair up like this but she decided to try something new, to see how it would look on her. A few hairs framed her smiling face. She wore a simple long sleeved dress in a combination of sapphire blue and purples.

“Yeah! I’m finally getting out! I can’t wait to see what my new apartment looks likes. Though I know it’ll be empty for now since I haven’t moved anything. It’s going to be quite the busy day,” she said, pretending to lament.

“Very busy. But I managed to find somebody willing to help us!” Jack said enthusiastically as he rubbed her shoulder. God. He loved touching her. Was it because of what transpired between them on New Years? Surely not, he had already loved touching her, holding her hand, and she looks so beautiful. So say it. “You look b-beautiful today,” he complimented. “I haven’t seen you with your hair up like this…”

The nurse couldn’t help but smile at this. Just looking at how they were acting around one another told her they deeply adored one another. It wasn’t something you ran into a lot, even here in a hospital. “So you are good for getting her back to your apartment from here?” she asked Jack.

“Oh yes. I have a taxi waiting outside. W-with wheelchair access.” Jack said.

She had gotten her X-Rays done a day prior to permit the doctor time to view them and talk to her about them, seeing how she was coming along as he had been surprised at her healing. Katelynn had been happy to learn that her legs were healing better than expected, giving her a new estimated time of healing so she could come back and remove the casts in order to begin her physical therapy.

Only 6 weeks, 3 months tops. That sounded a whole lot better than the seven months Jack was constantly lamenting about.

Katelynn was excited, happy to be finally getting out and moving into her new apartment. She hadn’t heard from Destruction Worker since his run in with anon magic so she figured he wasn’t going to help move, which was fine with her as she wasn’t sure how Jack was going to be around him. Not that she worried they’d fight but…

She shook her head, smiling at the nurse who was helping her pack her things and feeling grateful she was helping. She didn’t want to leave anything behind and she tended to be a bit scatterbrained at times.

She held onto the camera that Jack had gotten her for Christmas, taking one last picture of her hospital bed if for nothing else than to remind herself that the hospital had been where she had found out she really loved Jack.

“There you are, dear,” the pudgy nurse said, putting all her things by the door of her room. “I believe that’s all your stuff and your release papers. You have the card for your next doctor appointment and your psychologist referral from the doctor.”

Katelynn nodded through it all, picking up her camera to take a picture of the nurse in her natural pose. The nurse stopped to blink at her a bit, having not expected that.

“Sorry,” Katelynn said, smiling a bit, “I um..I take pictures of almost anything.”

She only received a faint smile. “Now then..do you have a ride home? We could arrange a bus service to take you.”
