Strange 24 Hours

“I know… it’s one of the things I love about you but… in this skin,” he touches her cheek gently. “You need to be more careful… okay?” Jack asked gently since the last thing he wanted was her getting into trouble or being insulted by someone. If somebody dare speak out against her… well. He wasn’t sure what he’d do, but it probably wouldn’t be good.

Roxy was sniffing along the pier as well, the smell of the water, the food, the people; all of it exciting to the little black pug.

She smiled, leaning up quickly to kiss his nose and trying hard not to stumble as they were walking after all.

“It’s okay..I don’t mind..they can say whatever they want about me. They don’t know me and I really have heard worse in my regular body.”

In fact, remembering that her mother was still out there looking for her made her shudder but she squashed the thought away, not wishing for negative thoughts to ruin their evening.

“Oh look a candy store!” she exclaimed, pointing. It was pink, with a huge fake ice cream stand by it and there was a taffy machine on display, rolling white taffy. It looked so cute!

What masculinity Jack had told him to not go near the place. It was pink! Entirely pink! With lollies and sweeties and candies all on display in the window. Besides, he didn’t like sweets that much. Jack observed the store in silence as Katelynn pointed at it.

Roxy, too, peered at the store before snuffing her nose at it.

“You want to go in?” Jack asked, forgoing his withering masculinity to keep his girlfriend happy.

Strange 24 Hours

Jack noticed this, and gently nudged her with his arm. “Don’t look people in the eye or smile at them, Katelynn… re-remember, Megamind is evil to them because he looks different. You now look different and… and they may associate you with him that way…”

He glanced at a group of girls who were watching them, one of them with long blond hair gave him a flirtatious wink and smile as they walked past them.

“I love chocolate men, they’re so hot.” one of the girls said to her friend, honestly not loud on purpose but they still overheard them.

“People don’t like what’s different. A-and blue skin and big heads are as different as they come around here…” he said.

“But..” she began, watching the girls comment on her boyfriend, snuggling closer to him on purpose and offering them a smile. They frowned at her slightly, one even giving her a disgusted look before walking away.

“Don’t know why he’s with her..” they said as they left.

Katelynn wasn’t hurt by this, shrugging her shoulders. “Well because I’m still me on the inside..I’m used to being friendly..you know that..” She whispered, looking up at him, Stella sniffing at the ground in front of her. Both her and Katelynn could already begin to smell everything the pier had to offer.

“I know… it’s one of the things I love about you but… in this skin,” he touches her cheek gently. “You need to be more careful… okay?” Jack asked gently since the last thing he wanted was her getting into trouble or being insulted by someone. Strange 24 Hours

“Feeling… p-pretty good.” Jack admitted with a small smile, as he took hold of her hand with his own as they began walking. “Still a little nervous I mean. Crowds. N-not so easy to just be okay with you know but… but this helps. This and you. You’ve always helped.” he says quietly as he shifts closer to her, bumping her gently.

She really had. He had barely stepped outside before he had first met her. Then he’d been going out, meeting her places, going out and about more… while large crowds still terrified him the people on the street were manageable. Barely.

“Well I’m really glad I could be of some use,” she began, smiling and reaching over with her free hand to touch his goatee gently. “But remember, it’s still also mostly you and your bravery.”

She cuddled closer to his side, snuggling her large head against his shoulder, her height the same as always. “I gave you the nudge and you’re the one who kept walking.”

As they walked now in fact they began to notice more and more people, people walking along the sidewalks and returning from the pier or going toward it, everyone talking happily, though some stared at the human/alien couple, having not seen it around before.

Katelynn watched one person look at her and smiled, giving a little wave. Their eyes widened before they hurried off. She blinked after them. Had she done something wrong?

Jack noticed this, and gently nudged her with his arm. “Don’t look people in the eye or smile at them, Katelynn… re-remember, Megamind is evil to them because he looks different. You now look different and… and they may associate you with him that way…"

Strange 24 Hours

Roxy was, of course, well behaved as she walked along with Jack, as if pointedly showing Stella how a dog should properly act when on a leash. She even sniffed at the air, shutting her chocolate brown eyes as she did, her curled black tail barely moving. Oh yes. She was important, and she knew it.

“I really don’t…” Jack admitted.

Seeing how the cold wasn’t making her feel sluggish and slow, Katelynn can correctly guess Jack’s species is warm blooded. She feels warm enough; even without moving around.

“Let’s pick a direction and go with it.” he finally settled on.

She had wanted to allow him to choose but the piers really were a good idea so she tried to going in that direction, smiling and quite comfortable in the skin she was in. It would probably be busy with people walking along the boardwalk and enjoying the sights themselves, a perfect place to start for Jack to get used to crowds.

“How are you feeling so far?” she asked gently, looking over at him with a curious expression, hoping to learn how this experience was for him.

“Feeling… p-pretty good.” Jack admitted with a small smile, as he took hold of her hand with his own as they began walking. “Still a little nervous I mean. Crowds. Jack had hurried to get his own jacket and scarf on, and pull on his boots. His hats were a bit baggy on him but he simply rolled one up slightly and tugged it onto his head and admired himself for a moment in the mirror.

Hm.

Nah. He liked his blue body much better but there was nothing he could do about that now, was there? Jack turned and rejoined Katelynn at the door, taking Roxy’s leash from her.

“So where shall we go? The park? The piers? I, I really don’t know where…!” he was actually excited Excited to go out.

She smiled at him, kissing his cheek gently before walking outside. Stella was pulling on her leash, excited to get going but Katelynn had to lock the door first.

“Calm down Stella, mommy is trying to hurry,” she laughed lightly, taking one of Jack’s hands in her own.

“Don’t know where to start then, love?” she teased him, beginning to walk instead of stand in the cold, hoping to warm her body a bit. She wondered if Jack’s species was warm or cold blooded.

He blinked his green eyes a little before turning his head to look outside. To go… outside, like this? He wouldn’t be stared at, would he? He wouldn’t be mistaken for Megamind, or anything like that. And Katelynn, well… if she wanted she could wear the watch or just go as she was. She was so brave, so strong, why would she want to hide?

Jack turned his head back to her, pausing to blow some loose curls that were beginning to hang in his eyes.

“I’d love to. If, if you come with me.” he said. “And the girls, too!” he added, looking down at the dogs.

She giggled, hearing a tiny bark at her feet as she bent down slowly, petting Roxy and Stella.

“Of course our girls come too. We’ll walk them around, take in the sights of the city,” she began, looking back up at Jack and smiling broadly, “whatever you want to do. I’ll let you decide.”

Giving another pet to each dog, she stood up to collect their collars, seeing them follow after her in excitement because she was nearing the door and that meant one of two things; no, one thing because they noticed the collars.

Going out!

Jack had hurried to get his own jacket and scarf on, and pull on his boots. His hats were a bit baggy on him but he simply rolled one up slightly and tugged it onto his head and admired himself for a moment in the mirror.

“I miss who you are too b-but.. it’s about what’s inside isn’t it?” Jack asks quietly as he runs his hand up against the smooth curve of her head, fingers trailing gently. “You’re… you’re still beautiful to me…”

He had fallen in love with the human Katelynn, of course he had. She and her long flowing hair, her smooth, peachy skin tone. But this was still her, only… a little different. A female of his own species. Well, his natural species. He gave a smile and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead, hoping to calm her a little.

“I guess you’re right t-though, about changing together… one can’t stay normal if the other isn’t… if w-what you can call us is normal.” he grinned slightly.

“More like a reversal..” she said, closing her eyes at the sensations he was giving her. “But yes..we’re still us on the inside..”

Opening her eyes again slowly, she peered into his own, fingers holding onto his forearms.

“Actually..now that you’re human..do you want to go out..? I mean..you said you were always scared of being judged because of what you looked like..even when I told you you didn’t have to worry..but for tonight..I mean..you know..experience a day as a human around the city..”

She hoped it didn’t sound insensitive and that he understood what she meant. She really wasn’t try to be.

He blinked his green eyes a little before turning his head to look outside. To go… outside, like this? He wouldn’t be stared at, would he? He wouldn’t be mistaken for Megamind, or anything like that. He let her touch his face, his eye still searching her brown ones, but he already knew who it was. How could he not? Even with the blue skin, and the large head, as well as those pointed ears… he knew who this was.

Smiling weakly, he tilts his head into her touch and lifts a hand to cover hers against his cheek, shutting his eyes. “Seems as though they like to change us at the same time, d-don’t they?” he asked, opening his eyes again to look at her.

“Wow just…” he pulls her hand away, lets go, so he can touch her blue cheek. “look at you… you look so different y-yet you’re still so beautiful…!” though he did miss her hair a little.

She blushes, this time purple herself on her cheeks and ears, her long lashes fluttering down a little. “I guess..since we’re such a pair..we change together..” she offered, smiling a little.

“B-But you really think so? You also..look good as a human..though I still miss you…is that..is that strange..?”

Just like when he had become more confident, he was still Jack, yet not and she had missed him then. It was such a confusing emotion to her.

“I miss who you are too b-but.. it’s about what’s inside isn’t it?” Jack asks quietly as he runs his hand up against the smooth curve of her head, fingers trailing gently. “You’re… you’re still beautiful to me…”

Strange 24 Hours

The two dogs looked equally confused; at least until that scent reached their noses. It was Katelynn, of course, and Stella was first upon her, sniffing and ‘dancing’ around her feet at her return whilst Roxy remained close to Jack.

Who, for the better use of the word, was staring at this blue skinned woman with brown eyes.

The voice was familiar. So were her eyes.

“…K-Katelynn?” Jack asked weakly. “Is that you…?”

She stared at him a moment, looking into familiar green eyes and for a moment the visage of a blue skinned man overlapped the dark skinned one standing in front of her.

Taking a cautious step forward, she reached a tentative hand out to touch his cheek.

“Jack..? You changed too..?” she whispered, eyes roaming over his different, but still handsome, features. She hardly noticed Stella at her feet whose tongue was lolling out, her paws on her legs trying to get her attention.

He let her touch his face, his eye still searching her brown ones, but he already knew who it was. How could he not? Even with the blue skin, and the large head, as well as those pointed ears… he knew who this was.

She had taken the day off from working at the police station, just until the magic wore off, rushing home to their apartment to show Jack what had happened, feeling slightly worried about what he would say because she was no longer herself on the outside.

But Jack doesn’t care about that..right? she thought, putting the key in the door to unlock it, swinging the door open softly.

“Jack,” she called out, brown eyes searching for him, feeling her stomach erupt into butterflies. “I-I’m home..Where are you..?”

Her heart beat fast in her chest, moving around the apartment to look for him. And when she found a dark skinned man, she stopped short.

“W-Who are you?”

The two dogs looked equally confused; at least until that scent reached their noses. It was Katelynn, of course, and Stella was first upon her, sniffing and ‘dancing’ around her feet at her return whilst Roxy remained close to Jack.
