Taking a Trip

“M-maybe you’ll see one later?” Jack asked as he turned the nearest light on since it was getting dark and they needed to be able to see where they were going. “Or before we leave? I, I’m sure they wouldn’t pass up the chance to have you see them or, or see them in real action as opposed to a door shutting…”

“I kind of hope so,” she replied, forgetting about the sandwich which she had been making, her excitement having wiped it from her memory. She took out her camera to try to look at the pictures but noticed the battery indicator this time as it blinked at her. And seconds later turned off.

“Awww, guess I have to charge my camera..”

She walked over to her bag, moving things around to look for her camera, unknowingly bringing up the piece of lingerie she had stored away, putting it on the side of the floor where it unrolled and revealed itself as she kept searching for her charger.

He’d followed her through, also forgetting the sandwich, but mostly also just wanting to make sure she didn’t run into any ghosts on the way to the bedroom. It would be horrid if she did. Jack leaned on the door frame, hands in his pockets, as he watched her search through the bag for her charger.

It would be cruel if any specter were to show up now, with her camera dead.

He was just about to ask her something when he saw something she set aside slowly roll out on the floor. Curious, he took a step closer but stopped when he saw what it was and his face turned purple. Lingerie? Lingerie. Katleynn had bought lingerie.

Jack stood there, struck dumb for a moment, before speaking. “Katelynn? Um. Your… that… On the floor…” he mumbled, pointing.

“K-Katelynn I’m sure it was nothing,” Jack said as he set his sandwich down an followed after her, the expression on his face an attempt at bravery but it was obvious he wasn’t as all right with this as he thought he would be. Hadn’t any time passage between the last time he was here and now changed anything? This was his family home. He should be so happy here! And he was! Until the door slammed.

“B-besides I don’t think a ghost answers to questions.” he poined out, before pausing. “Unless they do?” he asked her, since she seemed to know a bit more on these things tham him despite him growing up with them.

She peered over her shoulder at him, hair falling over her shoulder. “Well..no…” she answered, a bit disappointed. “Unless you really do provoke them, call them out somehow. They sort of do answer if you do that. But then you get the mean ghosts and I’d rather not run into one of them..”

She wasn’t afraid of a mean ghost, really, but she didn’t want Jack getting scared over one.

Sighing in disappointment at finding nothing, she turned to stare at Jack a bit, her face showing that disappointment. “I guess there really is no point looking then..I thought maybe I could. But I’d rather film one actually moving on camera versus take their picture. Though seeing one would have still been pretty cool.”

“M-maybe you’ll see one later?” Jack asked as he turned the nearest light on since it was getting dark and they needed to be able to see where they were going. “Or before we leave? Of course he opens his mouth for her and takes a bite of the sandwich she made, before taking it from her and peers up at the ceiling as well. He, personally, hoped they didn’t find any of the ghosts. They still terrified him, ever since that man at the end of his bed like that. Even just footfalls in other rooms were enough to set him on edge.

And then the back door’s screen door ceremoniously closed without reason.

“Wind.” Jack said quickly, a little too quickly, before taking another bite of his sandwich, eyeing the door in question.

Oh now that was exciting! Katelynn looked off toward the door and took a step forward, peering around it this way and that. She looked outside, wondering if wind really had been the cause. There was a slight wind but still.

Humming to herself, she jogged out of the kitchen, stopping at any corner to peer around the side, hoping to catch something. She had grabbed her camera on the way, taking pictures of different areas of the room to see if she could catch anything.

“Mr. Ghost..” she whispered softly, taking another photo of what looked like Jack’s dad’s office. “Are you here..?”

“K-Katelynn I’m sure it was nothing,” Jack said as he set his sandwich down an followed after her, the expression on his face an attempt at bravery but it was obvious he wasn’t as all right with this as he thought he would be. “Don’t eat too fast,” Jack said, hoping he didn’t sound disappointed or anything over the fact she wasn’t going to mouth feed him grapes. That was a bit rude of him to assume she would; Katelynn was a good girl, and he didn’t know what kind of women would feed a man with their mouths. Not sanitary ones, he’s sure.

“Here we should take our time. T-they probably know we’re here already, after being in charge for so long…” he teases, bumping her hip gently as he begins to help make some sandwiches too.

She giggled, finishing off his sandwich, and bringing it up to his mouth, giving him a quick, “Ahhh!” motion like she wanted to feed him. “Well if they already know..I still want to go looking for them.”

She looked upward toward the ceiling, a smile on her lips. “Okay Mr. Ghost, get ready! Katelynn Foster wants to meet you! Bet you can’t scare me!”

Of course he opens his mouth for her and takes a bite of the sandwich she made, before taking it from her and peers up at the ceiling as well. Jack was momentarily stunned when she had passed the grape to him like that. It sat in his mouth for a moment before he clenched his teeth, chewing it, and swallowed it slowly. His eyes stared, still, wide with surprise, before that blush rushed over his face, turning it from blue to purple.

“…I’m… okay with that…” he answered quietly.

She giggled, going back over to the groceries and grabbing a knife, beginning to cut some of the dutch bread to make them some sandwiches. “I’m just teasing..I wanted to see the look on your face..”

Grabbing some milk, she poured them some, getting everything ready, her stomach rumbling. She put a hand to her stomach, blushing and trying to ignore it.

“I’m just going to eat fast and try to explore the house..after you told me about the ghosts I want to go see if I can find some..”

“Honestly, anything.” Jack said with a grin and a shrug. “I’m not at all picky right now.”

She had her own little wicked idea. Taking a grape in her mouth between her lips instead of her teeth, Katelynn walked over to him and fed it to him, passing it along with her tongue. “Then maybe I’ll just feed you grapes,” she murmured, staring seductively into his eyes, a flush on her cheeks.

The sunlight from outside was beginning to wane, casting the kitchen in a soft, orange glow, but Katelynn was too busy staring into green eyes to really notice.

He hugged her as best he could with his arms full of bags, but he pulls away, puts them down, then hugs her tightly. “Don’t forget that I love you. Ever. Please. O-other women may s-say things and t-touch my hands and arms b-but I don’t like it. I only l-like you doing that…”

“I won’t forget, I won’t,” she whispered softly, her hands massaging where they rested on his back.

She stayed in his arms a moment, simply being with him, before pulling away slightly to smile up at him shyly. “W-We should..hurry back to the cottage..I wasn’t kidding when I said I was hungry..” And insert sheepish grin here.

“I’m kind of hungry too.” he admits feebly before bending down and picked up the bags. “Come on if, if we walk quick we’ll be back in ten minutes.” he said with a smile before the two began their trek back towards the house.

“Katelynn I love you.” Jack said with more conviction. “You’re the one who I think of all the time, y-you’re the one who gets me out of my house, who inspired me to come b-back here… not Sally. And S-Sally can’t cook water. She’s horrible at it.”

She felt guilty, so ashamed, a blush overpowering her face from the amount. “I’m sorry Jack..I just..I guess I couldn’t stand it when I saw her all over you is all. I’m sorry..” she whispered, hugging him tighter. “I’ll remember next time..I swear..”

He stared at her for a while.

“…I love you.” he said quietly, suddenly unsure if these words were enough. “I… what… w-why would I…”

She stepped forward into his arms, nuzzling her face against his chest and trying to calm the guilt from her heart. “She was just..cause she’s so pretty and she was..flirting with you and I looked at myself and I’m short..and a Plain Jane, and I can’t cook and she probably can and…stupid insecurities..I guess..”

“Katelynn I love you.” Jack said with more conviction. “You’re the one who I think of all the time, y-you’re the one who gets me out of my house, who inspired me to come b-back here… not Sally. And S-Sally can’t cook water. She’s horrible at it.”

He smiled awkwardly, before leaning into her, pressing his forehead down against hers. “Katelynn. That’s just how Sally is… with all the-the guys. E-even when she was young she was like that and I just got so freaked out I always r-ran from her…”

“R-Really?” she asked softly, the weight slightly moving from her shoulders. “She doesn’t..have a crush on you..you’re not..going to go with her..?”

He stared at her for a while.

“…I love you.” he said quietly, suddenly unsure if these words were enough. “I… what… w-why would I…”
