*he had his hand over his mouth, eyes heavy with emotional pain, as he had watched all this play out. god, she’d been awake. she’s aid his name. she knew he was here. his heart ached, wanting to take her way from all these people who made her fall asleep, removing her from him again, but he knew he couldn’t, this was for the best*
s-she woke up. *he looks at Rhonda, eyes wet* Katelynn said my name… she knows i’m here…
Rhonda rushed over, putting her hands on his shoulders. “Hey, that’s great! She woke up faster than anticipated. She’s strong. You should be happy for that.”
She squeezed his shoulder gently, wishing to reassure him. “It’s okay. This is just proving she’ll be all right. She’ll make it through the night and recover.”
She didn’t want to kill his hope by telling him that her concussion would probably not allow her to remember any of this. She didn’t have the heart to tell him such a truth.
To distract herself, she moved over and got his bed ready, putting the blankets on it. “You look tired. You really should rest. You want to be awake for the next time she’s up right? The morphine will most likely keep her asleep for another 6 hours.”
*he looked at the bed, then at Katelynn, then the bed again. Jack felt exhausted, in more ways than one, but he returned to Katelynn’s side quickly. the blue man stood there for a moment, looking down at her, before leaning down and quickly kissed her cheek as best he could with the tubes and everything in his way*
i love you.
*then he moved to the cot, pulling his shoes off as he did, and his scarf and hat* thank you again…
