“Hi, Katelynn. Hi.” he smiled faintly in the darkness, shape only highlighted by the lights out in the hallway. “I have a surprise for you. One of the nurses is going to help you into a wheelchair in a while.”

“A surprise?” She asked, looking quite surprised. “O-Oh I can’t wait to see it!” Tries to talk quietly so she won’t disturb her neighbor but she’s just so excited. “I hope I’m not too heavy for them..”

“Oh I think you’re fine…” he says just as a nurse walks in pushing a wheelchair.

It takes a moment but soon Katelynn is settled into the wheelchair, and has an added blanket wrapped around her shoulders, over her legs, and Jack even sets a hat and scarf into place. As well as some gloves.

“We’re going to watch the fireworks.” Jack explains, “From the roof of the hospital.” he goes around and grabs the back of the wheelchair, and begins to push her out of the room. “I had to do a lot of convincing to allow this…”
