The fireworks were beginning to die down now. How long had they been up here, doing this? Half an hour? Less? Jack is too ashamed to look at his watch. Surely it wasn’t long enough, no matter what length of time had passed. But he holds onto her, tightly, not wanting to let her go but knowing they had to since she had to be back in bed soon or else the nurses would come looking and oh good heavens if they had arrived a few minutes ago… to find a patient being intimate with her partner in the open…

How he wants to sleep with her. To sleep besides her. To awaken with his arms around her, holding her close.

In a few days time, he will. They don’t even have to do this. They could just sleep, holding each other, and wake up and be the first thing each other sees in the morning. It would be wonderful.

“Nobody else will… will know me like this…” Jack admits quietly as he draws himself up, and slips free of her body in the same motion. “A-all right… Katelynn..? N-nobody but you. B… but now I.. before… before the nurses come looking we… we should probably get you dressed and… and back into bed…”
