Taking a Trip

will-never-be-a-swan:

wrapped-in-shadows:

“Oh, Mrs. Lee! This, this way.” he gestured, taking her hand, and led her from the meat stall towards a few other stalls. They pass them, people singing their wares as usual, until the smell of bread hung thick in the air.

A young man around sixteen, seventeen, was at the front of the store taking orders.  Behind him a couple were working on taking some bread out from an old style wooden stove.

“H-Hey Mark.” Jack greets.

“Jack!” Mark, the young man, said. “Mom, Mom, it’s Jack! And he’s got a girl with him!”

Jack blushed. Why was everyone so shocked he had a ‘girl’ with him…?

“Hello!” Katelynn greeted cheerfully, stepping forward. “I’d like to buy a loaf of bread please! Oh and I’m Katelynn Foster, nice to meet you!”

It smelled so good here, causing her stomach to rumble a bit. When was the last time she had eaten? Katelynn couldn’t even remember. The hot chocolate was the last thing she remembered drinking but that was all. And this place smelled like heaven on earth. Dutch bread was her favorite and she saw a few loaves but looked up at Jack, smiling. “What kind of bread do you want?”

“I-I like Dutch bread.” Jack admitted when the woman from the back, who looked like she was somewhere in her sixties but looked at least twenty years younger then that, came rushing up.

“Jack! You blue angel you where have you been? We heard you left for Metro City the day after your parents took off!” Mrs. Lee exclaimed.

“Y-you heard right Mrs. Lee.” he replied quietly, smiling faintly. “I’ve been there since… th-this is Katelynn my girlfriend.”

“Girlfriend oh bless your face you little boy.” Mrs. Lee all but gushed before looking at Katelynn. “Hello!”
