*he smiles shakily at the woman, Rhonda, before looking back at Katelynn*
…i hope i’m enough, that’s all. i care about her so much, and… and i know some people might thing it’s too fast but honestly i don’t care what they think. a-and i normally do care but she’s been so wonderful. she’s so scared, of so much, but i’m willing to hold her hand through all of it. through any of it. and i’ll be here when she wakes up.
i promise her that.
*he finds a chair and moves it to the bed as he sits down in it, looking at Katelynn still*
she’s going to get through this. i’ll make sure of it.
Her heart flutters a little, touched by the strength in the young man. If only her husband had been as romantic when they were dating.
“You know…” she begins, whispering softly, “they say the ones who are there for you without needing to be asked are the ones for you.”
She walked over softly to the bed, hands cupped in front of her. “I don’t know her so I can’t speak for her…but I’m sure when she wakes up, and sees you here for her, she’ll know as much. Though I don’t know if she knows or not, and I’m sorry about butting into your business. It’s just nice to see someone care so much over a loved one. And I think she’ll make it too. Love usually makes miracles happen…”
*he smiles faintly. normally he cares little for miracles, acts of god. he was raised in a house where your belief was anything you wanted to be, no pressure, no restraints. if you wanted to believe in an all seeing, all powerful god by all means go ahead. if you wanted to believe in the teachings of one simple man with a book, you could do that too. but Jack himself had never bought into god, miracles, things like that…
…he probably never would. but at this moment, the phrase ‘love makes miracles happen’ brings a sense of warmth to his heart. Jack looks at Rhonda and smiles faintly*
…thank you. that means a lot. to hear that.
